The SAP MaxDB/liveCache Database
SAP MaxDB/liveCache is SAP's database technology product and is proprietary of SAP AG.
LiveCache is an additional object oriented technology based on and integrated into MaxDB. It is a hybrid system that can act either as a standard DBMS or as a memory-based application server extension. A logical further development, therefore, is the liveCache OneDB Server, which is just one database fulfilling both tasks.
Within the SAP service system MaxDB/liveCache is identified through the components BC-DB-SDB, BC-DB-LVC, BW-SYS-DB-SDB and BC-DB-LCA (liveCache applications).
This document describes major changes between SAP MaxDB versions 7.6 and 7.7. For details please refer to the (online) documentation.
Even if some of the features described below are not directly perceptible, they might have a strong impact, e. g. on performance or scalability, and thus are briefly described.
This paper may be updated if major items are added within the 7.7 lifecycle.
If within this document LOBs (Large Objects, also known as BLOB or CLOB) are mentioned, these refer to the SAP MaxDB data type LONG.
