SAP BW 7.4 powered by HANA, aDSO, Advanced DSO, Advanced DSO Layers

Summary

In the previous whitepaper, Advanced DSO - What's so Advanced about it (http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-68639), we looked at the purpose of a new kind of SAP BW Infoprovider known as Advanced DSO and also walked through the process of creating an advanced DSO.
As a sequel, in this document, we aim to unveil the intricacies of an Advanced DSO. We will look at how the config settings are connected to different layers we choose from the Template. Which layer results in what type of BW Object (DSO/Cube) will be the prime focus of this document. This will provide the foundation to take decisions in terms of modeling and implementation. This will also aid in understanding the purpose of different template layers and enable us to choose judiciously.

For clarity sake, this whitepaper is phased out in 3 parts:
1. Advanced DSO - Behind the Scenes - Part 1:
Here we will look deeper into the workings of the first template layer: 'Data Acquisition'.

2. Advanced DSO - Behind the Scenes - Part 2:
Here the journey will take us to the second & third template layers: 'Propagation' & 'Corporate Memory'.

3. Advanced DSO - Behind the Scenes - Part 3:
Finally the adventure will culminate with the fourth and last template layer: 'Reporting'.

Since the content comprises of umpteen screenshots, links to the XML format for all the 3 parts, are provided. Please try to use Chrome browser and once you download the content, you should be able to open it with Word.

With the conviction that my crusades will help my fellow comrades in their battles, I present to you this whitepaper.
