1.      What is Remodeling?

Remodeling is a new concept introduced in BI 2004s to manage changes to the structure effectively in an infoprovider, where the data is loaded and running.

2.      Which of the infoproviders can be remodeled?

As of now we can make changes to the Infocube only.

3.      What is the available option for remodeling a Characteristic?

Characteristics can be remodeled on the following ways
-          Inserting, or replacing characteristics with:
o   Constants
o   Attribute of an InfoObject within the same dimension
o   Value of another InfoObject within the same dimension
o   Customer exit (for user-specific coding).
-          Delete

4.      What is the available option for remodeling a Key Figure?

Key Figures can be remodeled on the following ways
-          Inserting:
o   Constants
o   Customer exit (for user-specific coding).
-          Replacing key figures with:
o   Customer exit (for user-specific coding).
-          Delete

5.      How to start the remodeling?

We can reach remodeling in two ways
a)     To access InfoProvider remodeling in the Data Warehousing Workbench, choose Administration.  And under that you can access the remodeling panel
b)     User can also access it in the context menu of your InfoProvider in the InfoProvider tree by choosing Additional Functions ® Remodeling.

6.      What is a Remodeling Rule?

Remodeling Rule collects remodeling steps for a particular InfoCube

7.      What is the prerequisite while using remodeling concept?

a)      As a precaution, Make a backup copy of the data before you proceed to use the remodeling concept
b)     Stop any process chains that run periodically that may affect the corresponding InfoProvider. Do not restart these process chains until remodeling is finished.
c)      Check whether there is enough available tablespace on the database.

8.      How to know whether all the relevant infoObjects are correctly activated?

You can display a list of the objects affected by remodeling by choosing  Impact Analysis. These objects are deactivated during remodeling. You can make a note of the objects that you need to reactivate later.

9.      Can I use a customer exit in Remodeling, if yes where I can use?

In remodeling, you can use a customer exit to fill added or replaced characteristics and key figures with initial values.

10. What is the procedure for customer exit?

a)      To implement a user-specific class, in the SAP Easy Access menu, choose Tools  ® ABAP Workbench  ® Development ® Class Builder.
b)     Enter a name for your implementation and choose create.
c)      Select Class as the object type.
Enter a description and select the following options:
?     Instantiation: Public
?     Usual ABAP Class
?     Final
d)     Save your entries. The Class Builder appears.
Use the IF_RSCNV_EXIT interface. This has the EXIT method with the following parameters:

Parameter

Description

I_CNVTABNM

Name of the remodeled table.
You require this parameter if you want to use the same customer exit for more than one remodeling rule.

I_R_OLD

Structure of the table before remodeling

C_R_NEWFIELD

Result of the routine, which is assigned to the new field

e)      Implement your class and save your entries.

f)       All classes that implement the IF_RSCNV_EXIT interface are available in remodeling. They are listed in the input help for the customer exit.

  1. BACKUP INFOCUBE - This would mean create a duplicate infocube and replicate the contents of your source InfoCube.  This will be your backup should the remodel not go so well.  I have seen this happen so be sure to B A C K  U P!  Good Luck
