PROBLEM

  • You need to control the display of messages in a Web application.
  • Warnings or Errors are displayed after executing a Web Template in the Portal.
  • System messages are being displayed in the Web application.
  • Expected error messages are not shown in the Web Application, e.g. when a user inputs invalid values for the variables in the selection screen.

RECREATING THE PROBLEM

After executing a report in the Portal you find that either:

a) Messages are displayed that you would like to suppress.

b) Expected messages are not displayed.

ROOT CAUSE

 This is caused by the Internal Display settings in the Web Template Parameters Web item.

SOLUTION

  • There are 4 parameters available to switch 'On' or 'Off' messages in a Web Application.
  1. ERRORS_VISIBLE: Use this parameter to specify whether error messages are to be displayed in the Web application.
  2. WARNINGS_VISIBLE: Use this parameter to specify whether warnings are to be displayed in the Web application.
  3. INFORMATION_VISIBLE: Use this parameter to specify whether information is to be displayed in the Web application.
  4. SYSTEM_MESSAGES_VISIBLE: Use this parameter to specify whether system messages are to be displayed in the Web application.
  •  The parameters can be switched On/Off in Web Application Designer.

Go to Web Template Properties -> 'Web Template Parameters' tab -> 'Internal Display' section. There you can toggle on of off for each parameter.

  •  Parameter ERRORS_VISIBLE must be set in the XHTML tab.

OFF

<bi:TEMPLATE_PARAMETERS name="TEMPLATE_PARAMETERS">
<bi:ERRORS_VISIBLE value=""/>
</bi:TEMPLATE_PARAMETERS>

 ON

<bi:TEMPLATE_PARAMETERS name="TEMPLATE_PARAMETERS">
<bi:ERRORS_VISIBLE value="X"/>
</bi:TEMPLATE_PARAMETERS>
