Fixed Issues

When exporting to excel, as part of the server and services report within the SIA Node tab, "Back to the top" hyperlinks at the bottom of each server section did not work. If you create a new cell with a hyperlink and then insert a row above the cell, thus pushing the hyperlink cell down, the hyperlink is lost.

To create a workaround, we now insert a regular cell where the hyperlink will exist. Then after all rows are created to build the entire tab, we go back and search for each hyperlinked cell and set the link.

There was an issue where the hostagent is:
1.) either not configured correctly
2.) partial or no hardware data is returned

This leaves potential for null pointer exceptions on the Hardware Analysis Report

E2E Trace Wizard : In some cases, using a domain user from a different domain (not the domain of the user currently logged on to windows) causes the SAP Client Plug-in Administrator logon to fail. (this logon allows the SAP Client Plug-in to start under local administrative access).

Workaround: Use a local administrator account instead of domain account with local admin access on the BIPST client. Or, use the domain\user of the account that is currently logged on to Windows (assuming this user has local admin rights on the BIPST client)

Workaround 2: Uncheck the option to Use Integrated SAP Client Plug-in and on step 3 manually launch the SAP Client Plug-in from the location:

<BIPST_INSTALL_DIR>\BISupport\bin\sapclientplugin

1.1.6 Release Notes

  • There was a bug that caused a NullPointer exception during node transformation (basically the writing of the XML doc to the actual file). A method was added to analyze the XML data structure and remove null XML nodes prior to writing the XML. This allows for the XML to be written correctly when running a landscape report.
  • Fixed relational connections query so it returns correct connection count in the Content Analysis report.
  • The alert analysis of the disk space available in FRS in Landscape Summary was not in line with the analysis at the FRS level. The two places (summary and FRS Details) are now aligned with the analysis.
  • Added a new parameter from the Information Engine within the Webi Processing Server (Landscape Analysis): Universe Cache Maximum Size (Universes).
  • Added Audit Details to the CMS and the alert analysis in the Landscape Summary.
  • Improved error handling with the data extraction algorithm for the Schedule Analysis report.
  • Modified alert thresholds for the longest query/commit response times for the CMS. The threshold is now caution at 1 minute and danger at 5 minutes. This change is based on user experience and feedback of the CMS in live scenarios.
  • When attempting to run the Schedule Analysis the tool just exits. It was discovered that character 0xFFFF was being written to the XML file inside scheduled failure messages. A method to check each character within the failure string to remove it if it was illegal was added.

1.1.5 Release Notes

  • Alerting added to detect if there are more CMS services running in a landscape than are needed.
  • Improved error handling and tracing. Information is now written to a TraceLog file in the program location.
  • Fixed a parsing problem with SAP SNC server details.
  • Improved handling of SIA Nodes that have corrupted information.
  • Added tabbed viewing for reports. This allows for multiple reports to be viewed within the same session.
  • Added the capability for the tools to run as a command line tool as well as a program object within BI. Minimum JRE support is 1.6.
  • Added new feature 'SAP Passport Decoder' which provides functionality to decode a Business Transaction XML file and perform E2E Transaction Trace using CA APM Introscope (aka Wily Introscope)
  • Fixed problem where some XML data files could not be analyzed. This can happen if an Adaptive Processing Server is in a bad state during data extraction.
  • Added reporting for the Design Studio APS.
  • Fixed bug that could cause the Landscape Analysis report to fail during extraction due to secWinAD plug-in not being available.
  • Fixed bug preventing the passport decoder from parsing passport xml files.
  • Fixed export issue causing all reports to not be shown in the navigation frame.
  • Add msvcr100 to the support files as with some clients this file was not included
  • Schedule Analysis not possible with Program Object (command line version is supported however)

1.1.4 Release Notes

  • All data extractions are stored locally in the BISupport/bin/data folder as *.XML files. Reports then query this data to pull together and analyze the information.
  • The report export will now create a frameset so you only need to open the index.html from the archive to view all reports.
  • Additional information has been added to the alerts that are thrown for the CMS (Central Management Server).
  • Change Analysis has been added.
-This feature allows for two reports from the same cluster to be compared to determine if any changes have been made between the two data extractions
-The analysis will need to be done on the data extracts (.XML files) and this is why they are now kept locally by default in the support tool's /data folder
-Defaults Analysis has been added so you can now compare a currently open report against the defaults to determine what changes have been made since product installation
-It's recommended to schedule a recurring landscape analysis report so that if you have a problem, you can compare settings before / after the problem started
  • Fixed a case where certain parameter values shown in the report may not come from the correct server of the same type.
  • Fixed a case where a report may not appear in the application. This was caused by a thread contention issue which has been resolved.
  • New descriptions and object types have been added in the Content Analysis report.
  • Universe counts are now separated based on UNX / UNV.
  • The SupportTool now utilizes the SAP JVM.

1.1.3 Release Notes

 - Landscape Analysis  - Updated the about page for a cleaner look. A check was added to show the latest available version of the tool.

 - Added the TraceLog settings to each of the server details. An alert was added based on the TraceLog setting to identify those servers  which have tracing turned on. Enabling tracing on a server will inhibit performance to some degree.

 - Added an Authentication Summary to the Landscape Summary tab. This summary includes detailed configuration information for Active Directory,  LDAP, SAP, and Enterprise authentication.

 - A correction was made to the Virtual Memory alert for the Webi Processing Server. This alert is now based on the parameters defined for the  Lower Memory Threshold and Upper Memory Threshold if memory analysis has been enabled.

 - Added the SIA Node placeholders to the report as the first tab under each SIA node in the accordion menu.

 - Added the Central Management Server (CMS) system database connection details to the details of the CMS in the database section.

 - Added the Data Date to the Landscape Summary Report. This date will reflect the date at which the data was retrieved from the BI Landscape.  The existing Report Date reflects the date in which the data was processed to build the report.

 - The date format for data date and report date should be reflective of the Locale from which the report/data is processed.

1.1.2 Release Notes

Landscape Analysis

-         Added ‘Server Request Port’ to server information and server comparisons.

-         Added ‘Server Start Time’ to server comparisons.

-         Enhanced alert analysis for Adaptive Processing Server in version 4.1. This aligns closer to the ‘Server Configuration Wizard’ in this version and should notify the viewer if sizing has not been done.

-         Added sorting to the servers under each node. Now all servers will be sorted by their kind allowing for them to be grouped together for easier viewing.

Content Analysis

-         Description of users has been corrected to reflect the user objects.

General

-         Corrected several typos in the application, thanks for the feedback everyone.

-         Added Wiki link under the help menu to quickly jump to the Support Tool landing page.

1.1.1 Release Notes

End to End Trace

- Bo_trace override has been updated to support SAP BI 4.1. The format and parameters for the configuration file had changed.

General

- Improved exception handling for working threads responsible for processing the report inspection data.

- Support for non-English characters has been added. Previously if paths utilized these characters an IO Exception would be thrown.

1.1.0 Release Notes

Changes Include:

-  Updated the Report UI which provides a more visual appealing and functional interface.

  • Landscape Report
    • Tabs across the top will represent the summary as well as the nodes in the landscape.
    • Each BI Server service will be contained in a collapsible accordion menu within each node tab
    • The tree navigation on the left has been removed and navigation is now offered in the above methods
  • All Reports
    • Tables are now styled to offer rounded corners (only partially supported by IE based on version)
    • The UI is dependent upon the local browser version on the host running the application. The lower the IE version the less rich the UI becomes
    • Auto sizing based upon window size, so now the more area you have the wider you can make the report and tables
    • Because of the new UI all data must be processed up front which will mean slightly longer load times than before. However, additional processing threads were added to keep the time needed to a minimum.
  • Exporting Report
    • The report export has been changed so the .mht archive format is no longer used. The report will now be exported into a zip which contains the full site archive.
    • The html can then be opened and viewed in rich format within the local browser of your choice.
    • Still to come is an index which will encompass all reports within a single browser page

-  End to End Trace Wizard and log Collection

  • Landscape Configuration Dialog
    • Details about the landscape must be added to know where to collect the log files from. When you create a new landscape you have the option to logon to the CMS to pull in all the BI servers in the landscape.
    • You can add/edit hosts and must enter credentials to access the share which contains the logging path and if you want trace.ini change support you will need to add that share with read/write permissions.
    • The path access is verified when the host information is saved.
    • App Server host information works much the same way but will likely have multiple logging paths due to how app server logging is done. All paths can be entered here but must all use the same credentials.
    • The landscape must then be saved which is done in a local .xml file (passwords are encrypted)
  • E2E Trace Wizard (Currently only supported with SAP BI Platform 4.0)
    • The first step asks for a working directory as we will need to copy all of the files locally for processing. There is a help that explains what preparation is needed here and what will be done to the trace.ini files if access is provided.
    • Step 2 provides some help on how to actually go through the E2E trace. The plug-in isn’t included because it is restricted and this tool is available via the SDN. In the future we may be able to fully integrate the plug-in
    • Step 3 is used to collect the logs. Load the BusinessTransaction.xml to pull the transaction ID and include it in the archive. An option to zip the logs is available.
    • The log collection does have a progress bar and will write to a log file in the working directory. If a logging location cannot be accessed the workflow will continue and the information will be written to the log file.
    • Extensive Help dialogs are added for each step in the wizard
  • CMS Logon Information saved
    • The Central Management Server logon can now be saved in the local preferences XML which is the same file that stores landscape data (passwords encrypted)
  • Preferences file
    • Can be loaded or saved so that when new version of the tool is downloaded this information can be saved and loaded into the new version

-  Miscellaneous

  • Adaptive Processing Server command line has now been added to the Landscape Analysis Report
  • Dashboard Design information within the Landscape Analysis report has been aligned with information provided for other servers.

1.0.5 Release Notes

Changes Include

  • Added a node layer to the tree within the application. Each servers belonging to their node will appear below that node in the tree. This will allow  for easier navigation when looking for servers belonging to specific nodes.
  • The logon is only supported using a specific CMS hostname. Added a check in case a cluster name is entered in the CMS hostname dialog to remind the user  that only hostnames are valid.
  • Added the capability to view servers using a table comparison matrix that will allow for quick review for the metrics and parameters for like servers. This is  available by default and is achieved by using the navigation tree once the report is completed.
  • Added the node placeholder values to the report. These can be seen by clicking on the node in the navigation tree.
  • Added 'running/stopped' icons next to the servers in the navigation tree within the application to highlight which servers were running/stopped at the time that  the data was extracted.
  • Added and alert for expired license keys. This can be seen within the license inspection report.
  • Adjusted disk space alert for the FRS such that the caution threshold is lowered to 30% from 40%. The actual space available must also be below 100gb to trigger and  alert.
  • Fixed a bug where the hardware information in the hardware section would not show all hosts. This could occur if some servers in the landscape were stopped when  the data was extracted.
  • Added the ability to export the new server comparison tables. Now by default the tables will be extracted at the same time as the report and the top menu has been  modified to accommodate this change.

1.0.4 Release Notes

Changes Include

  • Added Summary page to Landscape Report which includes a version analysis to validate all servers in the environment are operating on the same support pack.  Future version analysis will be done at the patch level. Also in the summary section is an alert analysis, this displays all alerts within the report.
  • Schedule Report - Break the Top 10 failing report objects into types
  • Added Enabled state and running state icons to all servers within the Landscape Report
  • Added Analysis of APS basic breakouts according to best practice
  • Added APS Maximum memory Analysis to determine if it meets minimum recommendations.
  • Correct FRS disk space analysis
  • No labels
