About the BI 4.0 Portal Integration

What are the benefits of Portal Integration?

With portal integration, SAP BusinessObjects allows you to integrate Business Intelligence (BI) content from Business Objects into the SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Portal. Customers are able to mix BI content and other applications easily. They can also personalize delivery of content based on SAP user roles and groups.
Having enterprise-wide access to relevant business information from a standard enterprise portal allows customers to make better-informed decisions. Consolidating the infrastructure for application and BI content delivery leads to reduced cost and time savings.

What is the portal integration

Portal integration is a ready-to-deploy solution that offers tight integration with SAP NetWeaver enterprise portal technologies to help you rapidly and easily incorporate business intelligence capabilities into your enterprise portal. Based on the portal capabilities of SAP NetWeaver, this allows business users to view and interact with Advanced Analysis workspaces, BI Workspaces, Dashboards, Crystal Reports, Explorer documents and Web Intelligence documents directly from the portal.

What is new in BI4.0

In BI 4.0, there are now 4 different options to integrate BI4.0 with SAP EP:

  • NEW  "SAP BusinessObjects Document List Template" iView
  • NEW "SAP BusinessObjects Document Viewer Template" iView
  • Knowledge Management (as we have in XI3.x)

Pre-requisite

0) You don't need the SAP Integration KIT anymore.

In BI4.0 you no longer need to install SAP integration KIT for server or client. For all these functionalities there is no need to do a separate install of SAP IK (like in XI3.1x). In BI4.0 installer has been improved : the integration KIT is included by default in the BI4.0 installer.

1) Pre-requisite : SAP Authentication

Nothing has changed between XI3 and BI4.0 for this point.
1. Log onto the CMC
2. Go to the Authentication section. Select the SAP Authentication In the Entitlement Systems tab, enter the values for System, Client, Application Server, System Number, User Name, Password SAP client, SAP System ID (SID) according to the SAP system.
3. In the Role Import tab, you should import the BW Role to your BI4.0.

4. Check that SAP Authentication is enabled on the Option tab.  If you want to have screenshot of the following step, you can have access to the following article: http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/display/BOBJ/Setup+of+SAP+SSO+Service+in+SAP+BO+BI4.0+CMC

2) Pre-requisite : Set up SSO for OpenDocument and BILaunchPad

In XI3.1 you had to modify the web.xml/web.config files.

In BI4.0 the configuration has been improved. You need to modify the following files (in the <InstallDir>\SAP BusinessObjects\Tomcat6\webapps\BOE\WEB-INF\config\default )

You need to modify the following parameters :

global.properties

BIlaunchpad.properties

OpenDocument.properties

    Hello Experts,

is it possible to integrate BI4 applications which use the BICS connection directly into the SAP Netweaver Portal without having a BOE-System, as it is currently possible with Xcelsius 2008?

    Regards,

    Markus Krämer

    Hi Markus

Yes, you will able to integrate the new BI4.0 Dashboard (the new name of Xcelsius) into the SAP Netweaver Portal wihout having to install the BI4 plateform (BOE System). And yes BI4.0 Dashboard will be able to use the BICS connection.

    Regards

We are considering this solution BW->BOBJ-->EP 7  but have one question?

Does the EP need BI Java installed?  I think No but need a confimation.

  4. To my knowledge the Java Stack is required, so Xcelsius (=Dashboard Design) can directly access SAP BEx queries (via BICS, BICS JAVA that is)

WebIntelligence on the other side uses the BICS ABAP stack to connect directly to SAP BEx queries (via transient universes)

    Hi David,

Does LaunchPad integrate into the EP as URL iView?

In other words could we schedule Webie documents to a users Webi Inbox, and enable the user to see access his Inbox via and iView in EP?

We have seen threads of how this can be accomplished in BO 3 but want to know if it comes as standard in BO 4.

    Regards,

    Tanya

    Hi Gurus,

It's posible a configuration of SSO with EP > ECC > BO? I mean set up SSO without BW?

    Thanks in advance

  7. Unknown User (rtx51xo)

    Hi Colleagues,

My customer has NW 7.3 and BI 4.0.  They want to be able to provide access to the repting content through iViews in EP/KM and also to be able to provide controlled commentary - only author and commenter can see and then all when approved by author (or manager of some description.)

I see in the PIK document at 4.10.3 that this sounds achievable - but using EP 7.0.

Has anybody got this working with Bi 4.0 and EP 7.3?

Will BI4.1 support NW7.3 or is it 'planned'?

    Any other advice welcome

    Thanks & Regards

    Bob

  8. Hi David,

Could you add how to import the .epa files to Netweaver to this article?

In guide, you just mentioned that how to upload the .par fiels to system

There are so many cusmters missed this step because it was not mentioned in guide

    Thanks

@ Kedar Joshi says:  We are considering this solution BW->BOBJ-->EP 7  but have one question? Does the EP need BI Java installed?  I think No but need a confimation. David Francois Gonzalez  :  for the iview you need only the EP, but you need the BW for the security part.

@ Tanya Rosch says: Hi David, Does LaunchPad integrate into the EP as URL iView?   In other words could we schedule Webi documents to a users Webi Inbox, and enable the user to see access his Inbox via and iView in EP? We have seen threads of how this can be accomplished in BO 3 but want to know if it comes as standard in BO 4.   David Francois Gonzalez  :  yes with the Iview list, we support scheduling. You can schedule a webi document to users webi inbox.

@Jaime Ernesto Ascencio says:  Hi Gurus, It's posible a configuration of SSO with EP > ECC > BO? I mean set up SSO without BW? David Francois Gonzalez  : The BI4.0 security is mapped with the BW, so I don't see how to set up SSO between your EP and BI4.0 without BW.

David Francois Gonzalez  :  In the future release, we want to improve the iView List or iView Viewer. As I know we don't want to invest more on KM. So As I know we don't plan to add more functionalities for the KM.

    Hi David,

How is now Portal integration with EP7.3? PAR files are no longer supported and we have to use PAR migration tool. The iView wizard is not the same. I manage to make SSO, Doc list and Document view work but its all manually typed in and you have to get the syntax correct.

    Thanks

    Ali

  11. Hi David and Ali Ziza,

Could you share some insight into Bi4.0 integration with EP 7.3 ?

    The scenario is  BW->BOBJ-->EP 7.3

    Hi,

Thanks a lot for the detail info here.  I have a question to ask

I'd like to implement BOBJ 4.0 with EP 7.01 SP8.  After I upload the iview templates par file (com.sap.businessobjects.iviews.par). It shows upload successfully, but i cannot see them under the portal content template iview.  I also upload KM par file, which displays under KM Content manager.  Which version of EP version is compable to the BOBJ 4.0?

    Thanks

    Hi All

    I will create a wiki for EP7.3 in Q2 2012.

    Hi,

SSO to the launchpad, openDocument works fine on SAP EP 7.0 and BI4.

I am trying to cnfigure SSO to CmcApp but this does not work. authentication.default = secSAPR3 parameter is added to CmcApp.properties and I am able to logon to CMC by providing SAP Logon details on the login screen. However, SSO from EP 7.0 to BI4 CMC is not working.

SSO to BOBJ 3.1 CMC works fine so I am wodering is there any other parameter thats required for BI4 CMC?

    Thanks

    BW is prereq.

    Strange integration...

So if your organisation doesn't have BW, what you must do?

Or no chance for SSO between BO and EP?

  16. Unknown User (n1uukyi)

SAP continues to pretend that the world is sap-centric and therefore the security model is based on SAP BW. But when a company uses Active Directory, what makes it available?

I want to integrate SAP Portal with SAP Business Objects BI 4.x and both products are based on Active Directory authentication.

What is the response of SAP to this need ?

I hope that the answer is not "you can not do it."

  17. Hi David,

under 2) Set up SSO for OpenDocument and BILaunchPad you wrote: "You need to modify the following files (in the <InstallDir>\SAP BusinessObjects\Tomcat6\webapps\BOE\WEB-INF\config\default )". In the BO-Admin Guide the SAP recommenends to edit configuration files in <InstallDir>\SAP BusinessObjects\warfiles\webapps\BOE\WEB-INF\config\custom and to redeploy the application with wdeploy. Is this way possible, too? Which solution is the better one?

    regards

    Daniel

    1. Hi Daniel,

modifying ...Tomcat6\webapps\BOE\WEB-INF\config\default works as intended but is not persistent, so if you wdeploy or install a patch, the settings will be resetted with what is set in ...warfiles\webapps\BOE\WEB-INF\config\custom.

I recommend following David's plan of changing it in the tomcat folder first, restart tomcat and test. If it works and you're happy, change permanently in the warfiles folder so changes stay permanently even if you upgrade.

I am trying to do secWinAD so that users can access WebServices with SSO to the Portal, not Tomcat.

Thanks for such a informative article.

    Environment:

    BOBJ 4.1 SP2

BW 7.4 . SAP authentication completed and working fine. We have only provided Application Server details as SAP-BW's server IP. Message Server is blank.

We are now trying to connect from EP but we are unable to connect.

For Connector settings : We are providing the Message Server as the IP of the BW server also we tried with FQDN but we are getting errors.

Hi, We have systems like BI7.3(separate stacks for ABAP & Java), BI4.0 and NW7.3 Portal(UME configured w.r.t Active Directory(LDAP)).
SSO was already setup between BI7.3 & BI4.0. Is this possible to have SSO setup between NW7.3 Portal  & BI4.0? how do we achieve this?

  21. Former Member

Hello, David Francois GONZALEZ & Morgan LeJeune ,

I have done all the steps for implementing SSO between BO and CRM web UI. but it is not working to me.

    Summary of my workflow

    1. created roles in CRM & BW

    2. imported CRM & BW roles & users into BO

         2.1 user alias done

    3. Enabled SAP authentication

    4. Generated keystore & certification at BO Side

    5. imported BO certification into BW & CRM ( in ACL are I have mentioned system as CRD for CRM system and its client. same to BW system as well. Am I correct? please correct me )

    6. exported BW certificate into CRM and the same way exported CRM certificate into BW by using client 000

    7. uploaded keystore file into BO

    8. changed settings of BILaunchpad.properties & OpenDocument.properties files

    9. configured BO opendocument url (http://XXXXXX-XXX.XXXXXX.XXX:8080/BOE/OpenDocument/1402060926/OpenDocument/opendoc/openDocument.faces) into CRM web UI (Is this generated OpenDocument url format is correct or wrong?)

    But no luck.

please correct me where I did mistake and also tell me did I miss any steps?

    Advanced thanks.
