Product versions:
BusinessObjects Enterprise XI3.1
Data Federator 3.0 SP1
SAP NetWeaver BI 7.01 SP3

When you install Data Federator an account sysadmin (with password sysadmin) gets created. For testing you can use this account, but for Implementing Data Federator 3.0 With SAP Netweaver BW Connector for Webi Reporting for a customer deployment you should create additional accounts, and the sysadmin account should only be used for Query Server Administrator (for example to create create user accounts and roles that you will be using for the deployment).

In Data Federator a user account is a login ID with permissions that allow it to perform specific actions, and role is a collection of user accounts that you can use to control access to groups of users

For this implementation you will create 2 roles and 2 accounts:

  • Roles:
Designer and Reader role (nwdesigner, nwreader)
  • Users:
Desginer and Reader users (designerusr, readerusr)

To create these roles and users:

  1. Launch Query Server Administrator, logon with sysadmin (password sysadmin)
  2. Click on My Query Tool
  3. Enter the following SQL statement to create the role nwdesigner and click Run Query
    CREATE ROLE nwdesigner

  4. Enter the following SQL statement to create the role nwreader and click Run Query
    CREATE ROLE nwreader

  5. Enter the following SQL statement to create the user designerusr and click Run Query
    CREATE USER designerusr password designer

  6. Enter the following SQL statement to create the user readerusr and click Run Query
    CREATE USER readerusr password reader

  7. Assign the role nwdesigner to desginerusr by entering the following SQL statement, and clicking Run Query.
    GRANT nwdesigner to designerusr

  8. Assign the role nwreader to readerusr by entering the following SQL statement, and clicking Run Query.
    GRANT nwadmin to readerusr

  9. Assign privileges to roles. Execute each of the following SQL statements to grant rights to the desginer and Administrators roles.
GRANT EXECUTE ON PROCEDURE executeNativeUpdateQuery TO nwdesigner
GRANT DEPLOY, UNDEPLOY ON CATALOG "/" TO nwdesigner
GRANT SELECT ON CATALOG "/" TO nwdesigner
GRANT SELECT ON CATALOG "/" TO nwreader

In this example we are giving access to all the catalogs (tick) , but you can restrict the users to have access to specific catalogs.

The 2 accounts are now ready to use. You will use designerusr for all the tasks in Data Federator Desginer and readerusr when defining the connection to Data Federeator in the universe in Designer. Once you have these users you can continue with other steps for Implementing Data Federator 3.0 With SAP Netweaver BW Connector for Webi Reporting
