The Hardware Summary Analysis Report is designed to provide insight into the operating system and hardware where SAP BI Platform and the Web Application Server is running.  This information is accessed via web service calls to the SAP Host Agent running on that host.  It is required that you install the SAP Host Agent and configure the connection parameters in the Landscape Configuration before running the Hardware Analysis.

For more information about the SAP Host Agent architecture, refer to Architectural Overview of the SAP Host Agent

Host Information

The properties and metrics of the host is critical in understanding various performance and functional issues found in the BI landscape. The information found in this analysis can help diagnose there issues and provide you with the information needed to improve your overall landscape and maintenance

CPU System Metrics

CPU utilization is a key performance metric. It can be used to track CPU performance regressions or improvements, and is a useful datapoint for performance problem investigations. CPU System performance is vital to any application and that is the case for all of the SAP BI Servers. Use the information contained here to assist in determining if you are experiencing or could be experience a performance issue as a result of this systems performance metrics.

Memory Metrics

Memory utilization is a key performance metric. It can be used to track memory capacity or bottleneck issues, and is a useful data point for investigating system performance problems. Memory performance is vital to any application and that is the case for all of the SAP BI Servers. Use the information contained here to assist in determining if you are experiencing issues related to Memory.

Operating System Parameters

An operating system is the most important software that runs on a host. It manages the host's memory and processes. The host's operating system (OS) manages the interactivity between all of the software and hardware on the host. Typically, there are many different programs running at the same time, and they all need to access to the central processing unit (CPU), memory, and storage. The operating system coordinates all of this to make sure each program gets what it needs in a timely fashion.

File System Metrics

The File System section groups metrics and parameters that represent the way the hard disk is logically arranged. This includes the type of file system used, the directory structure, and way the disk is partitioned. This information can be useful to determine if there can be issues related to volume or throughput when accessing the drive for read/write operations.

Network Card System Metrics

The network card performance, configuration, and error rates are vital to the SAP BI landscape and server architecture as a whole. In a multi host environment communication is important between server components. If issues arise in this area they can manifest themselves in many different ways within SAP BI. Evaluate these metrics to determine if they are operating at their peak capabilities.
