These instructions will instruct you on how to update your version of the SAP BusinessObjects BI platform support tool 2.x. Since all your history data and preferences are stored in your user roaming profile, this information will remain after the update. Updating to the latest version is as simple as deleting the old client files and deploying the new client.
UPGRADING FROM BIPST 2.0 TO 2.1
Once you start the BIPST 2.1 for the first time, your existing preferences will be upgraded to version 2.1 and is not backwards compatible with BIPST 2.0 clients.
KNOWN ISSUE: Some customers are affected by the below issue. If your client does not start successfully after upgrading please refer to the below KB Article for the solution.
PLEASE UPDATE YOUR HOST AGENT OPERATIONS
Improvements have been made to the SAP Host Agent operations. Please update the operations.d folder contents on the servers running the SAP Host Agent. Refer to step 7 below.
- Download and extract the latest version to a temp folder on your client machine
- Browse to the location where you installed the original version. In this example, I used the location C:\Program Files\SAP\BIPST
- Delete (or move to a temp folder) the current files in your BIPST install folder
- Browse to your temp directory (where you extracted the new installer) and double click BISupportToolSetup.exe to execute the installer
- Specify the location of your original BIPST folder under Destination (in my example this was C:\Program Files\SAP\BIPST) then click Install
- The new client is installed and will launch automatically
Update the SAP Host Agent operations:
BI PLATFORM / WAS RUNNING ON WINDOWSCopy the contents of the operations.d folder from the BIPST installation folder to the operations.d folder on each server running an SAP Host Agent.
Browse to $INSTALLDRIVE:\$INSTALLROOT\BISupport\bin\operations\Windows\operations.d (where $INSTALLDRIVE is the drive where you installed the application, $INSTALLROOT is the folder)
- Copy the contents of the operations.d folder from the BIPST client to the directory C:\Program Files\SAP\saphostctrl\exe\operations.d on each BI node and Web Application Server node in your landscape (this is the location where the SAP Host Agent is installed).
BI PLATFORM / WAS RUNNING ON UNIX
a. Browse to $INSTALLDRIVE:\$INSTALLROOT\BISupport\bin\operations\Unix (where $INSTALLDRIVE is the drive where you installed the BIPST client, $INSTALLROOT is the folder)
b. Copy the contents of folder operations.d on the BIPST client to the directory /usr/sap/hostctrl/exe/operations.d on each BI node hosted on Unix and Web Application Server node hosted on Unix in your landscape (overwrite the existing operations)
As root run the following commands to set the required file permissions / ownership:chown -R root /usr/sap/hostctrl/exe/operations.d chmod -R og-w /usr/sap/hostctrl/exe/operations.d
