Purpose
The purpose of this page is to consolidate and proactively provide information around Web Intelligence Rich Internet Application applet (RIA) and the Oracle Java Runtime environment.
Overview
With each recent release and version of the Oracle Java Runtime Environment / Java Virtual Machine, there have been some changes in behavior and issues seen in the Web Intelligence Rich Internet Application applet within SAP Business Intelligence BI4.0 and BI4.1 and Java Applet in SAP Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.1.
Issues observed range from pop-up windows that can be dismissed to errors that prevent the RIA/Java Applet from launching.
If you have any comments or would like to provide feedback, please login to SCN and use the comments section at the bottom of the page.
What versions of the Java Runtime Environment are supported?
The Supported Platforms (PAM) documents contain the latest information about JRE/JVM support in BI 4.0, BI 4.1, and XI 3.1.
XI 3.1 Supported Platforms (PAM):
BI 4.0 Supported Platforms (PAM):
BI 4.1 Supported Platforms (PAM):
BI 4.2 Supported Platforms (PAM):
https://support.sap.com/content/dam/library/ssp/infopages/pam-essentials/SBOP_BI_42.pdf
These same documents can also be accessed through the Essentials section of the PAM 2.0 pages for XI 3.1, BI 4.0 and BI 4.1 (go to https://support.sap.com/release-upgrade-maintenance/pam.html and click on the "Display all product versions" button and search for BI 4.2, BI 4.0, BI 4.1 or XI 3.1).
This topic is also discussed in KB 2012045 - What is the Support policy for Java Client Runtime
Please note:
- Only 32-bit browsers are supported, except for Safari on OS X, which is only available as a 64-bit browser
- For IE10 and IE 11, this means “Enhanced Protected Mode” (64-bit content processes) is not supported. The IE10/IE11 application itself (the “Manager” process) is always 64-bit on 64-bit systems and this is supported.
- Support for Oracle Java 6 has been deprecated as of December 31, 2013.
- Starting with BI 4.1 SP03 Java 1.6 is no longer supported. Starting with BI 4.1 Support Pack 04, JRE 1.6 will not longer work at all with the Webi applet. BI Launchpad will redirect you to the Java homepage to download Java 1.7. There is no work around for this.

The main link to the PAMs on the new Customer Support Portal at support.sap.com is located here. As more customers start using the support.sap.com site, links may need to be added.

The Design Studio PAM https://service.sap.com/sap/support/pam?hash=pvnr%3D67838200100900007316%26pt%3Dg%257Cd which is dated August 10th 2014, says Design Studio only supports JAVA JRE 1.6 and 1.7. When will you be testing JRE 1.8?

Hi Andrew,
I only work with the web intelligence product, which is what this wiki deals with.
I am not familiar with Design Studio or what their roadmap is for their java support.
You may want to go to SCN
http://scn.sap.com/community/businessobjects-design-studio
and ask there or create a case.
Best Regards,
Jason
