Purpose

To help with troubleshooting.

Overview

On Miccrosoft Windows Cluster an error occurs, similar to these ones:

  • RSBTCDEL | RSBTCDEL2 or other reorganization jobs finish with success but the files in <local_drive>:\usr\sap\<SID>\SYS\global\<subfolder> don't get deleted
  • joblog cannot be displayed, syslog reports: F3  V Error 2 for write/read access to a file. File =<local_drive>:\usr\sap\<SID>\SYS\global\<subfolder>\<file>
  • joblogs are written to <local_drive>:\usr\sap\<SID>\SYS\global\<CNT>JOBLG instead of \\<UNC_path_to_SAPGLOBALHOST>\sapmnt\SYS\global\<CNT>JOBLG
  • other type of error which are related to global folder

Resolution steps

(Re)configure the system according to the SAP Support Portal - Installation & Upgrade Guides.
<local_drive>:\usr\sap\<SID>\SYS\ must point to \\<UNC_path_to_SAPGLOBALHOST>\sapmnt\SYS\ (directory junction).
Refer to the section Creating Symbolic Links on Windows Server 2008 (R2)and higher for Application Servers in the installation guide (e.g. Page 81 in this one)  how to create the symbolic link.

How to check if the system is affected by the issue?

Perform following command:

dir <local_drive>:\usr\sap\<SID> | findstr SYS

  • If the result is similar to this:

03/04/2013  11:31 AM    <DIR>          SYS

This is incorrect, <local_drive>:\usr\sap\PRD is a directory instead of a symbolic link. This must be corrected, see the steps above.

Note: In case there are already data available in <local_drive>:\usr\sap\<SID>\SYS\<subfolder> first you need to merge its content with \\<UNC_path_to_SAPGLOBALHOST>\sapmnt\SYS\. Afterwards rename <local_drive>:\usr\sap\<SID>\SYS\ and create the symbolic link.

  • If the result is similar to this:

03/04/2013  11:31 AM    <SYMLINKD>          SYS  <target>

 This is correct.
