R/3 System Copy using Detach attach method– MSSQL Server

Important: This method can be followed only for already installed systems (or) for system refresh.

Please follow below steps

Source System:

  1. Stop R/3         
  2. Open the SQL Server Management Studio
  3. Please note down the properties of your current DB
  4. Take the DB offline
  5. Detach the DB
  6. Copy the Data (MDF,NDF) files  & Log (LDF) files to the Target system.

Target System:

Part 1: Activity to be done with the old DB:

      1. Stop R/3
      2. Open the SQL Server Management Studio
      3. Please note down the properties of your current DB
      4. Take the DB offline
      5. Detach the DB

 

Part 2:

  1. Rename source <SID> with target <SID> in the Data (MDF,NDF) files  & Log (LDF) files as follows:

                                       <SID>DATA1.mdf

                                      <SID>DATA1.ndf

                                       <SID>LOG1.ldf

    2.      Attach to DB to SQL server in the target system using SQL Server Management Studio

            

3.        Now download the SAP tools for MS SQL Server from the following location:

            http://service.sap.com/msplatforms

           Select Microsoft SQL Server from the Microsoft Links

          

4.      Uncar the file and start the SWPM. Please follow the screenshot for further details

       

       

        

        

        

         

       

5.     Run R3trans -d to check the db connectivity.
