This article intends to help BPC Administrators understand the options in the program UJ0_FILE_UPLOAD, giving them more information on how to manage the EPM Add-in client version available for users to install.
BPC 10 for SAP NetWeaver uses the EPM Add-in Excel client as a front-end reporting tool for end users.
The EPM Add-In enables users to analyze data from several EPM solutions at the same time. It was introduced in BPC 10 as an Add-in for Excel, PowerPoint and Word, replacing the old BPC only Add-in used in BPC 7.5 and 5.0.
BPC 10 for SAP NetWeaver users must have installed the EPM Add-in client. This client can be installed stand-alone or downloaded from the BPC Web page. It can also be updated while logged into the EPM Add-In within Excel.
This wiki gives information on all the options inside the UJ0_FILE_UPLOAD program that is used to upload the EPM Add-in Client versions.
The EPM Add-in Client:
The EPM Add-in Client is an Add-in for Microsoft Office Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
File upload options:
These are the options in the UJ0_FILE_UPLOAD program: (If you are on BPC 10.1, use program RSBPC0_FILE_UPLOAD)
Option (What version will users be able to use):
User update: user can use any version of the EPM Add-in client without being prompted for update
Please note: If any other versions are uploaded then their policies will be taken into account and if they have Auto update or Force update enabled, they will be used as the current version, even if the User update version is higher.
Auto update (user can use any version of the EPM Add-in client being prompted for update every log-in)
When using Auto update, the user will be prompted to install the current version of the EPM Add-in client if the user is not already using it.
Force update (user can only use the current version of the EPM Add-in uploaded)
When using Force update, the user will be prompted to install the current version of the EPM Add-in client if the user is not already using it. The client will not work unless the user updates to the current version.
The version of the EPM Add-in client, the value for the version is used to compare when checking for new versions. The current version of EPM Add-in client will be the value used in this field. If there is more than one version uploaded, the current value will be the highest value of the version field.
E.g.: between versions 10.0.7351 and 10.0.0.7352. The version available to users will be 10.0.0.7352.
The version to be used in the File Version field can be found in the EPM Addin Patch <version_number>.xml file. Between the <version></version> tags:
This field is mentioned as “Update file type” in the EPM Add-in Install Guide. The option selected will reflect on how the file is used when the user updates or installs the EPM Add-in client.
Update file when uploading the EPM Addin Patch <version_number>.msp file.
Full Installer when uploading the EPM Add-in.exe file.
For more information please refer to SAP Note 1718803 - EPM Add-in installer file upload, UJ0_FILE_UPLOAD, Update file vs Full Installer clarification.
Select file to upload to server: the location where the file will come from when uploading.
Browse: get the location for the file to be uploaded
Upload: starts the uploading process to NetWeaver
Delete All: deletes all the entries in the UJ0_AUTO_UPDATE, clearing all EPM Add-in versions. (For BPC 10.1, the corresponding table is RSBPC0_AUTO_UPDT)
Exit: closes the program
Please note that:
Uploading files with the same version in the File version field will replace the previous one in the UJ0_AUTO_UPDATE table, even if they are of different types.
If there are only Update file versions uploaded in UJ0_AUTO_UPDATE table then a user without the EPM Add-in client installed will not be able to install the update. For more information please refer to SAP Note 1701446 - Not able to download EPM Add-in for BPC 10. Internet Explorer shows the error: Unable to download latest from <server name>.
If there are no Update file versions higher than the user version installed, then the EPM Add-in client will not prompt to update, even if there is a full installation with a higher version.
For example, a user has version 10.0.0.7200 installed, onthe NetWeaver server there are versions 10.0.0.7200 uploaded as Auto Update and Update file and version 10.0.0.7201 (the higher) uploaded as Force Update and Full Installer. The user will NOT be prompted to install the higher version because Full Installer does not update, it only installs it if the user does not have the EPM Add-in client installed.
