The purpose of this page is to inform administrators how to enable Windows Installer logging and generate installation and uninstallation logs.

If the user faces Desktop Connection for SAP CRM installation or uninstallation problems, it’s necessary to collect Windows Installer logs. Installer logging can be enabled by adding special parameters to the msiexec command in the command line.

Enable Installer Logs

To enable installer logs, do the following:

  1. Open the Command Prompt.
  2. Run the following command: "C:\setup.exe" /v"/l*v LogFile.log", where "C:\setup.exe" is the path to the EXE installation file, and "LogFile.log" is the path to the file to be used to output the log file. As you continue with the installation, make sure that LogFile.log has been created. Note that you can also enable Windows Installer logging by dragging setup.exe to setup_exe_log.cmd (this file is available as an attachment to the lab work).

Enable Uninstaller Logs

To enable uninstaller logs, do the following:

  1. Open Registry Editor (regedit.exe).
  2. Go to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall (for the 32-bit OS)
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall (for the 64-bit OS).
  3. Search for the product name (Desktop Connection for SAP CRM).
  4. The result would be a folder with a long code, which is actually a product code.
  5. Open the Command Prompt.
  6. Run the following command: MsiExec.exe /log product.log /I <product code}, where <product code> is a code found on step 4. The log file will be written to the Product.log file.
  7. As you run this command, Windows Installer will appear. Proceed with the uninstallation.
