Welcome to the 7 Billion InnoJam Wiki

  SeanPresenting.jpg

The world’s population will exceed seven billion by the close of 2011 and this will present unique challenges and opportunities for the human race. That’s why the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) launched the 7 Billion Actions campaign. On October 24th, SAP Palo Alto Labs was the site for a two-part event co-hosted by SAP, UNFPA and the Churchill Club.  The day started with an Executive Roundtable on “Innovating for a World of 7 Billion” followed by the SAP InnoJam: "Actions to Innovate for a World of 7 Billion"

During the InnoJam, teams were tasked to propose solutions to the challenge:

What tools, solutions, or frameworks would best enable youth in the least developed countries to enjoy greater access to secondary education, thereby empowering them to generate lasting economic benefit to themselves and their societies?

The ideas and proposals that came out of the day have the potential to improve access to secondary education in the Least Developed Countries. The hard work and preparation by our design team and coaches, the passion the participants brought, along with our amazing group of experts and judges made this a truly inspirational day.

Interested in helping take these ideas forward?  Click here to request an invitation to our Streamwork collaboration site. Teams will continue to iterate and refine the solutions over the next two months. Then we will evaluate the proposed solutions and decide how and where we can take the best idea further to implementation.

Overview of winning projects

First

Village Academy

Collecting the government curricula and providing apps, tailored to each villages’ needs, on solar powered, inexpensive tablets.  There will also be a survey that allows for feedback and improvement from the locals.  Respected community leaders and peer-to-peer teaching all play a role in imparting knowledge.

Second

Mobile Teacher

Building off of existing government support of school development, teachers will come to villages with curriculum each week.  They have the opportunity to teach using technology or with a text book.  Mobile technology will increase communication between teachers and students.  Students will in turn tutor other students.

Third (Shared)

Third Way

Using mobile technology (cell phones, $35 tablets) and existing telephone infrastructure to reach people in villages, particularly mothers, thereby enabling them to stay at home with their children.

Third (Shared)

School for You

Addressing physical safety and using existing mobile and IT infrastructure to bring knowledge to villages, allowing respected community elders to teach and opening opportunities for the next generation to learn and teach as well.
