Business Packages are predefined portal content, provided either by SAP or certified partners. The use of business packages can greatly reduce the time to implement an SAP NetWeaver Portal, as the iViews, pages etc are already defined.

Business packages can be accessed from the SAP NetWeaver -> Portal -> Portal Content Portfolio path in the left hand navigation frame of SAP Network (SDN/BPX), or you can follow this link. On that page is a link to the Product Availablity Matrix for Portal Content, which needs an SAP Market Place logon, which is a table that shows which business package is supported and appropriate for which backend release.

Most business packages require some relevant business data in an SAP backend system with appropriate configuration and many business packages assume certain BW/BI reports exist.

The business package content does not have to be used completely as delivered - you are generally free to make use of any iViews and pages within any existing portal roles to implement a subset of the business package functions.
