Reusing ESS Java applications in ESS ABAP Role:

SAP develops predefined, preconfigured self-service. These services facilitating an increase in employee efficiency, reduce costs, speed portal deployments, and maximize the value of your IT infrastructure thus helping companies get the most out of their IT investments. This document provides implementation guide for reusing Employee Self Service Java applications in the Employee Self Service launchpad role of ERP 6.0 Enhancement Pack 5 and above.

Business scenarios for reusing Employee Self-Service Java applications:

1)   Reusing Guided procedure java applications delivered in Employee Self-Service Java Portal role of ERP 6.0 and above in Employee Self-Service Launchpad ABAP role.

2)  Reusing any Employee Self-Service java applications delivered in Employee Self-Service Java portal role of ERP 6.0 and above in Employee Self-Service Launchpad ABAP role.

 Steps to reuse Employee Self-Service Java applications:

  1. Create a new ESS Menu application.
    1. Create a new application configuration.
    2. Copy the component configuration.
    3. Assign the newly copied component configuration to newly created application configuration.
  2. Change the ESS role and instance name to the newly copied ESS role and instance in the newly copied ESS Menu application.
  3. Launchpad Customizing:
    1. Copy the ESS Launchpad Role.
    2. Create a new folder.
    3. Create a Portal Page application entry.
    4. Give a meaningful Application link text and description.
    5. Maintain the PCD URL of the application portal page in “Path to Page”. 
      1. Copy and paste the “URL of PCD Page” from the corresponding application resource entry
      2. Save the entry.
  4. Create the iview for the newly copied ESS Menu application. Embed the iview in to the page, page to workset and workset to the role.
  5. Assign the ESS portal role to the user and execute the My First Days application.

Example:

In this section, we will see how we can reuse the Guided Procedure applications in Employee Self-Service launchpad role.

  1. Create a new ESS Menu application.
    1. Create a new application configuration.
    2. Copy the component configuration.
    3. Assign the newly copied component configuration to newly created application configuration.

  2. Change the ESS role and instance name to the newly copied ESS
    role and instance in the newly copied ESS Menu application.


  3. Launchpad Customizing:
    1. Create a folder “Life and Work Events
    2. Create a new application entry: “portal page” – My First Days
    3. Maintain the My First Days Portal page PCD URL in the “Path to Page”.
    4. Save the entry.
