Transfer Posting

Purpose

This for removing materials from storage in one storage location and place them in another storage location. This can occur either within one plant or between two plants or company codes.

Features

A transfer posting usually refers to a change in a material’s stock. For example, release from quality inspection, accepting consignment material. In a transfer posting, the material can remain in its original storage bin or be transferred.

This is used to represent organizational-relevant transfers within the company (for example, decentralized storage.

So, the transfer posting is a change in book keeping information - about a material. For most posting changes, the goods remain in the same physical location.

For Example,

  1. Releasing stock from inspection
  2. Designating available material as inspection stock
  3. Changing a material number
  4. Splitting materials into two or more batches
  5. Converting special stock, such as consignment stock or returned stock, into Company stock
  6. Changing ownership of stock from one plant to another

Various Transfer posting scenarios

Scenario 1. Stock transfer via stock transfer posting using one-step procedure

Both stock transfers and transfer postings consist of a "goods issue" from an issuing point and a "goods receipt" at a receiving point. Stock transfer from storage location to storage location or from plant to plant either in one step or in two steps can be posted. The advantage of the one-step procedure is that there is a single transaction in the system.

Scenario 2. Stock transfer via stock transfer posting using two-step procedure

The two-step procedure, on the other hand, allows monitoring the stocks in transit. After the goods issue is posted at the issuing point, the stock appears "in stock transfer" at the receiving point and is managed as such in the system. The two-step procedure is also required if users have authorizations only for their own plants.

Scenario 3. Stock transfer using stock transport order

Stock request will happen from receiving plant as a Stock transport order to the Supplying plant. Supplying plant will post goods issue against the stock transport order. The issued stocks Will be in “stock in transit”. Once goods receipt is posted in the receiving plant, stock lying in the Transit will be updated in the receiving plant Inventory. System will post an accounting document in case of valuated stock.
