Activating Apps

App packages released for Fiori Frontend Server.  You need to check these notes if you wish to run Fiori apps from non-S/4HANA solutions in parallel to S/4HANA, e.g ECC, SoH, SRM, etc.

Central app features:

Activating apps in the Me Area

Activating Fiori My Inbox

Activating Fiori Notifications

Activating Analytical Apps

S/4HANA delivers a lot of analytical apps using Embedded Analytics. For some types of analytical apps there are some additional steps needed.

Tips for other Fiori Apps

Some Fiori apps have dependencies that need to be configured.  Make sure you read the Fiori Apps Library configuration information and the App Documentation, especially:

  • Check for dependent apps including reuse components
  • If the app uses attachments, check the Attachment Services have been activated
  • If the app can use Default Values, check the Default Values have been activated

Check the App Documentation for additional configuration tasks

Alternative Entry Points

SAP Business Client is the standard desktop client for the Business Suite & S/4HANA, on-premise edition.  Business Client enables power users to benefit from the best of both worlds - the simplicity of Fiori Launchpad with the added efficiency of launching SAPGUI for Windows from the Launchpad & from Fiori Apps. This provides a more comfortable experience for those transitioning from SAPLogon, NWBC (the predecessor of Business Client), or older versions of Business Client to Fiori Launchpad.

SAP Business Client with Fiori Launchpad is possible as of Business Client 5.0.  Recommendation for S/4HANA is at least 6.0. Latest version 6.5 is prefered

Optional Extensions for Fiori Launchpad

  • SAP CoPilot overview (Still in BETA) - Digital Assistant for the Enterprise
  • SAP Content to Go  (Still in BETA) - iOS devices only! Anywhere, anytime access to up-to-date business data from your mobile device

Extending Fiori Apps

In App Extensibility (aka Key User Extensibility)

In App Extensibility includes standard SAP Fiori flexibility features and SAP Fiori Apps that enable you to easily adapt SAP Fiori apps without a developer.  These techniques can be used by Functional Consultants, Process Experts and Key Users.

Where to find the Business Context? Just check the App Extensibility documentation for the Fiori app, e.g. Manage Profit Centers App Extensibility

Some examples:

Classic Extensibility

Classic Extensibility are techniques that require developers.  Depending on the change needed this may involve a SAP Fiori "web" developer or ABAP Developer or both.  Developers working in SAP S/4HANA need to understand the ABAP Programming Model for SAP Fiori.

Sizing and Performance

NOTE: When resolving performance issues, it is VERY IMPORTANT to know what app type - Fiori, Web Dynpro ABAP, or SAPGUI - is experiencing the problem.  Resolution paths are typically quite different for all 3 technologies. If in doubt, check the app type listed in the Fiori Apps Library.
