Purpose

The purpose of this page is to clarify the behavior and configuration options for the Development Objectives portlet/block, which is available for the People Profile.

Overview

The Development Objectives portlet/block allows you to view / add / edit / delete the user's Development Objectives directly in the Employee Profile, as long as you have permissions to do it, as defined in the Development Plan template. You can also decide which Development Plan templates you want to include in the portlet, and the users will only be able to select the templates that you included in the configuration.

  • The dropdown at the top of the portlet allows the user to select which Development Plan template they want to view;
  • The "plus" icon next to the portlet / block title allows the user to add a Development Goal.
  • By default, the portlet will not load all Development Goals initially, which helps maintain the overall performance of the People Profile. To see all the Development Goals, the user needs to click in the "Show more" button.
  • To edit the Development Goals, the user can click on the edit icon next to each Development Goal.

Add / Edit Development Objective Dialog

The Add / Edit Development Objective dialog from the People Profile portlet is similar to the dialog in the Development Plan. The user will have write access to the same fields, according to the permissions defined in the template. From this dialog, the user will also be able to "Delete" development objectives, if he has permissions to do so.

What permissions does the portlet respect?

  • From the Development Goal template: all permissions from the Development Plan template also apply to the portlet, so the user should be able to do the same things they already do directly in the Development Module.
    • Action permissions such as create and delete
    • Private access: permission to view private goals.
    • View/Write permissions: view and write permissions can be granted for each field. So, when editing a development goal, the user will only be able to edit the fields for which he has write permissions.

What Development Goals appear in the portlet?

There are two possible configurations on which development goals appear in the portlet:

  • Allow the users to decide which Development Goals to publish to the portlet in People Profile. This is the default configuration. In the Development Plan, the users will have the option to Publish/Unpublish each of their goals to the Development Plan portlet.

  • Publish all Development Goals to the Scorecard. This requires some configuration in the Development Plan template XML. With this option, all Development Goals are included in the Scorecard by default and it's not possible for the users to hide/unpublish any of them. The only restriction to visibility will be the Development Plan permissions in this case. To configure this option, the following switch needs to be included in the template.

    <switches>
         <switch for="development-scorecard-show-all-goals" value="on" />
    </switches>

    If you are a customer, you don't have access to provisioning to make this configuration. Please engage your Implementation Partner or contact Cloud Product Support to have this change completed. For more information on the Software Change Request process, refer to SAP KBA 2252618 - SCR Form: XML Software Change Request for Career Development Plans and Learning Activity Plans.

    Element Order

    The "switches" element needs to be included in the following order, depending on which other elements you already have configured.

    obj-plan-id?,obj-plan-type?,obj-plan-name+,obj-plan-desc?,obj-plan-lastmodified?,obj-plan-start?,obj-plan-due?,obj-plan-numbering?,switches?,
    custom-scale?,category-config?,add-wizard?,summary-section?,text-replacement*,obj-library?,behaviors?,self-assessment?,assessment-filters?,
    learning-activities?,category*,default-category?,competency-filters?,field-definition+

How to configure the Development Objectives portlet?

Configuring the Development Objectives portlet is a 3-step process:

  1. Configure the Development Objectives element in the Succession Data Model (provisioning). For details and the background element definition, please refer to the CDP Implementation and Administration Guide - Publishing Development Goals to the Portlet on the Career Scorecard - Data Model Configuration .
    • If you are a customer, you don't have access to provisioning to make this configuration. Please engage your Implementation Partner or contact Cloud Product Support to have this change completed. For more information on the Software Change Request process, refer to SAP KBA 2252618 - SCR Form: XML Software Change Request for Career Development Plans and Learning Activity Plans.

  2. Configure the portlet / block in People Profile.
    1. Go to Admin Center > Employee Files > Configure People Profile.
    2. Drag the "Development Goals / Objectives" block to an available spot.
    3. (optional) Change the block configuration, such as the Title, Description, Size and available templates. If you don't select any templates, the portlet will include all active templates by default.

    4. Save it.
  3. Grant permissions for users to view the portlet. Note that this only grants the ability to view the portlet in the Employee Profile. The content is still controlled by the Development Plan permissions.
    1. Go to Admin Center > Set User Permissions > Manage Permission Roles > select the desired role.
    2. Click on "Permission" > go to "Employee Data" section > enable "View" permission for the portlet (according to the label you defined in your Succession Data Model).
    3. Click on "Done" > Save.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

This section aims to answer frequently asked questions about the portlet behavior:

  • Is it possible to select a default view template for Development Objectives portlet?

Currently, it is not possible to set a default template to show in the Development Objective portlet on Employee Profile. The system will show by default the latest Development Plan template in your instance.

However, the dropdown menu in the Development Objective portlet has a sticky preference, where the system memorizes the last template the user selected, showing the selected template next time the user access the portlet.
