 1. Ad Hoc Notifications

Administrators can send ad hoc notifications from SuccessFactors Learning to users of the system. From the users' perspective, the email is from SuccessFactors Learning (not from an individual administrator). Ad hoc notifications are helpful if you want to target a specific group of users without having to use a third-party e-mail program. For example, you can send an ad hoc notification to users assigned to a specific scheduled offering.

Note Ad hoc notifications can only use a small set of notification tags. To see the tags that you can use, read Notification Tags Available to Ad Hoc Notifications. Do not base ad hoc notifications on custom notification templates because the syntax tag IDs will appear as plain text.

Ad hoc notifications are available in many locations in SuccessFactors  Learning, but the best place to send ad hoc notifications is through the Send Notifications wizard (Start of the navigation path Users Next navigation step Tools Next navigation step Send Notifications End of the navigation path

2. System-Provided Notification Templates

Use system-provided notification templates to customize default email messages that SuccessFactors Learning sends individuals about automatic processes, assessment processes, background jobs, catalogs, learning plans, performance reviews, scheduled offerings, and VLS attendance processes.

When you first deploy SuccessFactors  Learning, it contains default notification templates. These templates form the email messages that users receive. If you do not customize the templates, your users receive the default notifications. If you do customize the templates, your users receive a differently formatted message (based on your changes).

For your convenience, some SuccessFactors Learning notification templates appear in two places: in the object record and in Start of the navigation path System Admin Next navigation step Configuration Next navigation step Notification Templates End of the navigation path. For example, the notifications templates for scheduled offerings appear in Start of the navigation path System Admin Next navigation step Configuration Next navigation step Notification Templates End of the navigation path but they also appear in Start of the navigation path Learning Next navigation step Scheduled Offerings Next navigation step Notifications End of the navigation path. The difference between the two is important:
  • The notification templates that you edit in Start of the navigation path System Admin Next navigation step Configuration Next navigation step Notification Templates End of the navigation path apply to all learning items and scheduled offerings in the system.
  • The notification templates in Start of the navigation path Learning Next navigation step Scheduled Offerings Next navigation step Notifications End of the navigation path and Start of the navigation path Learning Next navigation step Items Next navigation step Notifications End of the navigation path apply only to that instance of a learning item or scheduled offering. Users no longer receive the system-wide notification for that particular record. Instead they receive the notifications that you edited in the Notifications.

Tip(star) If you modify the notification message for the scheduled offering (Start of the navigation path Learning Next navigation step Scheduled Offerings Next navigation step Notifications End of the navigation path), then you permanently break the link between the scheduled offering notification and the item notification.
