SAP Puzzle Challenge

What is the Wiki about?

Good puzzles inspire creativity. I will design an original puzzle every month. Hope you enjoy them.

How to participate?

Welcome to participate, feel free to submit answers by adding comments to puzzles you are interested in.

What does the ★ stand for?

I am using the ★ to measure the difficulty of a puzzle. A puzzle with more ★ means more difficult. Anyway, a good puzzle is not necessary to be very difficult. Some puzzles with less ★ are good as long as they inspire creative thinking.

  1. Hope participants have fun with puzzle challenge. This is also very good practice for people to improve innovation and problem solving skill.

Regarding how to solve the puzzles, I have the following suggestions:

    1. Most of the puzzles are not very mathematical, everyone can enjoy them without having to learn any professional knowledge. Be confident.

    2. The puzzles are quite different from any puzzles which you have ever seen. You probably have to think in a different way and have to find out new strategies in order to solve them. Be innovative.

    3. I ever posted the puzzles in somewhere else. As some of them are extremely difficult, it took several months to discover a possible solution. And some of them are still unsolved yet. Be persistent.

    4. Keep in mind this is team work. If you can not solve a puzzle independently, you still can help with providing some suggstion which might inspire other people. Be cooperative.

  2. As I don't have much time on this fun work, probably I might fail to check answers and reply questions regarding my puzzles in time. I will logon occasionally and give short comments on some threads. Anyway, I don't play the role of judge, everyone has the opportunity to comment on other people's answers.

I will post a new puzzle every month. Although I am not a professional puzzle designer, I hope to design best puzzles and make the SAP puzzle wiki the best one in the world. Most of my puzzles are very difficult ones, which might scare newcomers. No worry, I sometimes post some easy ones.

To make all the puzzles in high quality, I especially fucus on innovation when I design. This might be a significant difference between this one from other puzzle website, I don't copy puzzles from other websites, never have to. If you find my puzzle is similar to any puzzle which is designed by other people, please let me know.

  3. Regarding what a good puzzle is, I have the following understanding:

    1. A good puzzle should be original. It would be boring if the participants already know the method on how to solve the puzzle. Each puzzle should be an invention. So for example, please do not post a Sodoku, which is not invented by you and people already know the method on how to solve it.

    2. A good puzzle should be based on simple logic, its difficulty should not rely on complexity. Do not post a puzzle like: "How to make a nuclear bomb?", it is too complex.

    3. The description should be clear. Some puzzles like "Why is cat happier than bat?" are actually brain twisters, they can be understood in different ways, there are not definite answers. Although some of them are funny, please do not post them in this forum.

    4. A good puzzle should not be tedious, please do not post a 5000-piece jigsaw or a puzzle like: "what is the longest english word which starts and ends with a same letter?"

    5. A good puzzle should not be too mathematical, since puzzle is not the property owned only by mathematicians. All people should be able to enjoy a puzzle regardless of their professionals as long as they are smart and like challenges.

    6. It is more challenging if you can design a more difficult puzzle. However, a good puzzle is not necessary to be very hard.
