What does means "passive" state?

An application server in "passive" will not receive requests.

  • The application server is removed from logon groups and not visible over SAPGUI.
  • No new logins occur on a passive application server, but existing login sessions are not affected.
  • Batch jobs are not started on a "passive" application server by unless explicitly requested. Already running jobs are not affected.
  • It still possible to login directly to the application server explicitly setting the the application server name in the logon process, however, the automatic distribution of activities will not be dispatched to this application server.
