The SAP update technology offers two update strategy parameters: downtime-minimized and resource-minimized.

Characteristics of Downtime-Minimized strategy

  • Parallel operation of production system and shadow system
  • Higher demand on system resources
  • Shorter downtime
  • Import of the substitution set into the shadow tables during production operation
  • Modification adjustment of the ABAP Dictionary objects during production operation
  • Activation and distribution during production operation
  • Using function ICNV, you can further reduce downtime by moving the conversion of large tables to the uptime.
  • Production operation stops in phase DOWNCONF_TRANS (at the end of the Preprocessing roadmap step).

The strategy is determined by the preconfiguration mode.
The standard and advanced preconfiguration modes use strategy downtime-minimized.
