Purpose
This WIKI intends to provide a description of the Solution Manager Diagnostics tools, what are the these tools, their objectives and how they work.
Overview
The Solution Manager Diagnostics provides a group of tools to analyze and monitor SAP systems. The main tools are workload analysis, exception analysis, trace analysis and change analysis. The Solution Manager Diagnostics provides a centralized way to trace problems in all systems connected to the Solution Manager system.
Solution Manager Diagnostics
The Solution Manager Diagnostics, also known as Root Cause Analysis is used to analyze and monitor the SAP solutions in the landscape. The End-to-End Diagnostics provides a structured evaluation method that indentifies the root causes of an undesired outcome and the actions adequate to prevent recurrence.
Analyzing the root cause of an incident in such systems requires a systematic top-down approach. This approach must be guided by tools that help customers to perform this analysis as efficiently as possible, following SAP best practices.
In summary, the Root Cause Analysis is:
- A Centralized root cause analysis to identify in complex system landscapes the component actually causing the problem
- A Unified and standardized problem resolution process with identical look-and-feel covering SAP based and non-SAP technologies and products
- A Balanced approach between analysis activities to be conducted at managing system (cross-component analysis activities) and analysis activities to be conducted at managed system (single component analysis activities)
- Problem resolution based on permanentely collected aggregated data for exceptions, changes and workload as well as unaggregated data for software and parameter changes
Interactive root cause analysis for performance and functional problems powered by End-to-End Trace Analysis
In addition, the Root Cause Analysis infrastructure is open to the integration of new SAP technologies, applications and third-party software.
For Solution Manager 7.0 EHP1, the End-to-End Diagnostics applciations are avaiable for a certain SAP products. The list of supported products with SAP Solution Manager 7.0 EHP1 can be found in note 1010428. Also,, the Solution Manager and the monitored system must meet the prerequisites from note1274287.
For Solution Manager 7.1, the End-to-End Diagnostics applications are available for a certain SAP products. The list of supported products with SAP Solution Manager EhP1 can be found in note 1478974. Also, the Solution Manager and the monitored system must meet the prerequisites from note 1483508.
The Solution Manager Diagnostics provides tools to perform end-to-end analysis, system analysis, host analysis and database analysis. All these applications are found in the Root Cause Analysis workcenter or in the Root Cause Analysis tab at the Solution Manager Workcenter (transaction SM_WORKCENTER).
