Solution Manager Implementation

CONTENT VALID FOR SAP SOLUTION MANAGER 7.1

DEFINITION:

Template projects are used to manage templates that could be used in Implementation rojects. Each template can contain any set of structures and pre-defined documents to be used as reference in future projects, saving time and efforts during the creation of the projects.

A template makes your project structure, or parts of it, with its assigned objects (documentation, test cases, IMG activities), available to other projects. You can lock templates, completely or partially, against changes when they are used in other projects. To use templates in other systems, transport them. Template projects are especially suited to SAP partner solutions or global rollout.(Reference )

Important: Template projects are just repository, so these projects cannot be created in productive systems when the system is locked for changes.

CREATING A TEMPLATE PROJECT AND A TEMPLATE:

The Template projects are created through the transaction SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN, where tou can also configure it's main attributes.

• SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN -> 'Templates' tab

Only for Template projects you'll find the tab 'Templates' in SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN, in this tab will be maintained every template contained in this project and it's visibility to the projects. After creating a Template there, it's visibility will automatically show a red light, this means it is in private state, so this template is not yeat usable for projects and can be fully edited.

• SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN -> 'System Landscape' tab -> 'Systems' tab

In this tab should be assigned the log. components referent to the managed systems related to this project. The log. components must be previously created in SMSY transaction.

• SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN -> 'System Landscape' tab -> 'IMG Projects' tab

In this tab is possible to maintain each IMG project in the managed systems and it's views.

• SOLAR01

In this transaction you'll configure all the structure as you would do in a normal implementation project, but for each Business Scenario, you'll have to assign a template created in the previous steps. It is important to have in mind that the Templates will be only available to be selected when creating a Business Scenario if it's visibility is in the private status, otherwise you'll need to change it in the 'Templates' tab in transaction SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN.

Documents assigned to the ‘Project documentation’-tab are NOT part of the template (only documents at the General Documenation tab are reference: General Documentation ) and therefore are not transferred to the project where the template is used.

Also is not possible to do an adjust and compare on that tab for templates. (there was a bug where the adjust and compare was possible, but this was solved with note: 1585908 Compare-Adjust against Project Documentation tab of template )

Important note: The 'Gen. Documentation' tab can only be managed in the template project. Even if you assign the template to a implementation project, you'll not be able to change nor delete the documents contained in it. To change the tab content, you need to do it in the template project and then apply the changes in the projects using the template.

• SOLAR02

Just the same way as in SOLAR01, you'll be able to configure and organize it as you want and verything assigned to the structure (documents, business processes, etc.) will be available to the projects through the Template in which it the structure is assigned.

Important note: The 'Gen. Documentation' tab can only be managed in the template project. Even if you assign the template to a implementation project, you'll not be able to change nor delete the documents contained in it. To change the tab content, you need to do it in the template project and then apply the changes in the projects using the template.

• SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN -> "Templates" tab  (After constructed the tree under the scenario)

After you constructed the tree under the Business Scenario assigned to the Template, go back to the 'Templates' tab and change the Template visibility to public. The alert will show as green what means the Template is now available to other projects.

USING THE TEMPLATES:

• SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN -> 'Scope' tab -> 'Template Selection' tab

In SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN transaction, after selecting your project, under 'Scope' tab -> 'Template Selection' tab, All templates with the visibility set as 'public' will appear in the list. Under each template is possible to check which Business Scenario from the template you want to use in your project, just need to check and save.

A batch job will be generated and will run in background to copy the selected structures to the project.

• SOLAR01/ SOLAR02 (For the project that uses the template)

In these transactions you'll be able to use and change the copied structure, except for the 'Gen. Documentation' tab, which can only be changed in the Template Project.

 To update the project with any change that was made in the template(changes made in the template project for the scenarios assigned to the template), you firstly need to run transaction SA_PROJECT_UPGRADE for the project where the template is used in order that the tabs are correctly compared and flagged as containing changes(reference: Compare and Adjust to Source ). Then you just need to navigate in SOLAR01, to the node and tab that was changed and click on the button 'compare and adjust'. A new window will appear showing the content that is currently in the project on the right side and the content of the template on the left side. In this window you'll be able to see what was changed or not and import the changes to your project.
