Termins and Definitions


Business Explorer (BEx)

The Business Explorer is the SAP Business Information Warehouse component that provides flexible reporting and analysis tools for strategic analyses and decision-making support within a company. These tools include query, reporting, and analysis functions. As an employee with authorization for the Business Explorer, you can evaluate old and current data to varying degrees of detail and from different perspectives on the Web and also in MS Excel.

Business Process Change Analyzer (BPCA)

Changes to the system, for example, Support Packages, customer developments or add-on installations can affect different business processes. Business Process (BP) Change Analyzer compares the objects in a transport to the objects in the TBOMs of the target system. Since every TBOM is clearly assigned to a certain transaction in a certain scenario, business process or process step, you can determine precisely, which parts of a Business Process Hierarchy are affected by the change.

You can use the test cases contained in the Business Process Hierarchy to create test plans that are tailored to the relevant changes. You can check scheduled changes as well as changes that have already been made.


Change and Transport System (CTS)

The Change and Transport System is a tool that helps you to organize development projects in the ABAP Workbench and in Customizing, and then transport the changes between the SAP Systems in your system landscape.

Computing Center Management System (CCMS)

You can use the Computing Center Management System (CCMS) to monitor, control, and configure your SAP System.

The CCMS tools support unattended system administration functions around the clock within the SAP System. You can use this tool to analyze and distribute the workload of clients and to display the resource usage of system components.

DataStore Object

A DataStore object serves as a storage location for consolidated and cleansed transaction data or master data on a document (atomic) level. This data can be evaluated using a BEx query.
A DataStore object contains key fields (like document number or document item) and data fields that, in addition to key figures, can also contain character fields (like order status or customer). The data in a DataStore object can be updated with a delta update into InfoCubes (standard) and/or other DataStore objects or master data tables (attributes or texts) in the same system or across different systems.

Expertise on Demand (EoD)

If you want to request an SAP expert, you can do this with an Expertise on Demand message. Technically an Expertise on Demand request is a customer message in OSS on component XX-EOD-*.

InfoCube

Type of InfoProvider. An InfoCube describes (from an analysis point of view) a self-contained dataset, for example, for a business-orientated area. You analyze this dataset in a BEx query. An InfoCube is a set of relational tables arranged according to the star schema: A large fact table in the middle surrounded by several dimension tables.

Infoset

Description of a specific kind of InfoProvider: InfoSet describes data sources that are defined as a rule as joins of DataStore objects, standard InfoCubes and/or InfoObjects (characteristics with master data). If one of the InfoObjects contained in the join is a time-dependent characteristic, the join is a time-dependent or temporal join.

InfoProvider

InfoProvider is a generic term for BI objects into which data is loaded or that display views of data. You analyze this data in BEx queries.

Issue

A problem (Issue) to which you must respond because it interrupts operational processing, or could do so in the short or long-term. This problem type is more than errors or interruptions which could be reported in a Service Desk message.

Issue Management

Issue Management is an interface between your support organization and SAP support. SAP Support staff can coordinate their cooperation with you using this function by, for example, suggesting solutions for the problem.

Customers can create, and assign services to problems (Issue/Top Issue), with this function. You can monitor the problems. Accept or reject the proposals. The status of the recommendations (tasks) can specify the solution progress. The problem (issue) status can specify whether a problem has been resolved. You can trace the entire lifecycle of your problems (issues) and their solutions.

Knowledge Warehouse (KW)

The SAP Knowledge Warehouse (SAP KW) is the SAP Solution for all the material used in training, documentation and handbooks. The SAP KW is an integrated environment for creating, translating, presenting, distributing, and managing information objects (info objects).

MultiProvider

A MultiProvider in Business Warehouse is a type of InfoProvider that combines data from a number of InfoProviders and makes it available for analysis purposes. The MultiProvider itself does not contain any data. Its data comes entirely from the InfoProviders on which it is based. These InfoProviders are connected to one another by a union operation.

Root Cause Analysis (RCA)

Today's distributed, multi-technology customer solutions offer multi-channel access through diverse devices and client applications. Analyzing the root cause of an incident in such systems requires a systematic top-down approach. This approach must be guided by tools that help customers to perform this analysis as efficiently as possible, following SAP best practices.

The objective of Root Cause Analysis is to identify and provide:

  • Immediate corrective action (workaround) to restore service operations as quickly as possible with minimal disruption to end users by isolating the area of concern
  • Complete solution to the issue at hand

Root Cause Analysis tools are designed to reduce the number of resources in each step of the resolution process.

In addition, the Root Cause Analysis infrastructure is open to the integration of new SAP technologies, applications and third-party software.

SAPoffice

SAPoffice is the R/3 System's electronic mail and folder system.

Using the mail system, you can send documents internally (to other SAP users in the same system) and externally (to non-SAP users or SAP users in another system). Documents are sent to external users using the telematic services, X.400 or Internet. Documents are sent to SAP users in another system using SAPcomm (up to 3.0) or SAPconnect.

Documents can be accessed in the folder system. In private folders, each user can create their own folder structure for their documents. In shared folders, the authorization concept allows folders to be created with general information or information for specific groups.


Service Data Control Center (SDCC)

The Service Data Control Center (old transaction SDCC, new transaction SDCCN) collects and manages performance data from a system for analysis in service sessions. It automates all processes to transfer this data from the system (or systems) in which it is collected, to the system in which it is analyzed. The tool supports the preparation and provision of services, for example SAP GoingLive Check or SAP EarlyWatch Alert.

Solution Documentation Assistant (SoDocA)

The Solution Documentation Assistant provides an overview of the current status of your analysis projects and analyses. The overview also gives you quick access to your current analysis analysis projects, analyses, and analysis results.

Technical Bill of Material (TBOM)

A TBOM contains a list of all objects that are involved in a certain transaction. These objects are, for example, elements of the user interface, module pools, function modules or tables.

Test Workbench

The Test Workbench is a tool which project leaders and project team members can use in all test phases. You can create and systematically archive manual and automatic test cases with the Test Workbench. You can also monitor the test case creation and create test plans. Finally you can constantly check the progress of individual test cases or an entire test plan. There is a test environment for testers.

Top Issue

Serious problem which is more than a normal problem (Issue), or a set of related problems. Top problems allow problems to be discussed, e.g. at management level.

Web Dynpro ABAP

Web Dynpro for ABAP or Web Dynpro for ABAP (WD4A, WDA) is the SAP standard UI technology for developing Web applications in the ABAP environment. It consists of a runtime environment and a graphical development environment with special Web Dynpro tools that are integrated in the ABAP Workbench (SE80).

Workcenter (in SAP Solution Manager)

Work centers are central work environments that provide access to role-specific functions. The structure of a work center depends on your role. You have access to relevant messages, alerts, reports, and documents for which your role is authorized. The number of work centers assigned to you depends on your tasks.
