VDI workflow has been enhanced to handle conversion of RH into VDS and transferring of VDS files from DMS to cloud. This feature is available in SAP 3D Visual Enterprise Generator FP10 onwards. For this, Visual Data Integration (SAPPLM) workflow must be setup to use cloud asset service. This is done by setting the flag ‘Store viewable to cloud’ to true and setting up of asset service connection details and project as shown below.

        Figure 1 VDI workflow settings

Cloud service connection is specified using connections in SAP Integration of VE Generator Administrator. Add a new connection and select type to Webservice. Specify cloud visualization service and authorization urls as shown below.

Create a project and in user name and passwords pane create new entry by giving client id and client secret values.

A conversion trigger must be setup for document type VED (any other custom document type defined for storing RH or VDS using VE Generator) and workstation applications ‘RH’, ‘VDS’ and ‘VDX’ for Visual Data Integration (SAPPLM) workflow as shown below in Fig 2. This is done by SPRO transaction following the path Cross Application Components → Document Management → Visual Enterprise generator → Maintain Conversion trigger.

When a job is triggered for RH files, the top level RH is converted into VDS and stored in DMS as well as cloud. For VDS files, the VDI job just transfers the top level file to cloud. In both cases cloud visualization ID and version for top level file are stored in ASSETID and ASSETVERSION characteristics of ‘VECLOUDSTORAGE’ class.

NOTE: When RH files are converted there could be some losses during vds conversion. The VDS files generated this way are not suitable for change management.
