Resolution

1. What is the SAP IQ Technical Performance Service (TPO)?

The SAP IQ Technical Performance Optimization (TPO) is an expert service that analyzes the technical configuration, performance and health of the SAP IQ database. If requested, the system analysis can be performed as joint workshop.

Generally, TPO service is available for SAP customers with premium engagement contracts like MaxAttention or ActiveEmbedded.

 

2. In which situations is a TPO service helpful?

The TPO service is useful in the following scenarios:

  • You want to proactively optimize performance and reduce technical risks (e.g. on a 6 to 12 months basis for critical production systems)
  • You want to address upcoming changes, for example: go-live of performance critical projects, new database functionality, increased volume or hardware changes.
  • You want to safeguard your solution from potential technical issues, such as performance bottlenecks or stability problems.
  • You need to identify and address existing technical issues that are already disturbing your system operation.
  • Your programs do not meet your runtime requirements or are causing unacceptably high database load.

 

3. Which topics are typically covered in a TPO service?

The following main topics are typically covered as part of a TPO service:

  • Collection of general information
  • Parameter check
  • Space and fragmentation analysis
  • Resource analysis (memory, CPU, I/O, swapping)
  • SQL statement optimization
  • Check of database administration (backups, cleanup, consistency checks)

 

4. What is a typical duration of the TPO service?

A full-blown TPO service typically takes 5 days. Depending on the analysis depth and focus different durations between 1 and 7 days can be negotiated.

 

5. Does the service take place onsite or is it remote?

Standard analysis TPO services are delivered remotely. If a workshop / empowering is requested, it will at least partially be performed on customer site. If for some reasons no remote connection can be provided, the complete service can be delivered onsite.
