Once I have SAP Solution Manager in place and End-to-End Root Cause analysis is implemented, which effort is it to upgrade to a newer SP of SAP Solution Manager ?

Apart from actually applying the new SP of SAP Solution Manager, there are no specific manual steps to be done for root cause analysis. Solution Manager will automatically promote updates to the diagnostics agent applications via the diagnostics agent to the managed system. Updates to the instrumentation of the diagnostics agent will only become effective after the next restart of the managed system. End-to-End Root Cause Analysis has minimum requirements for managed systems (documented in note 1010428), but these are not increased with higher SP levels than SP10 of SAP Solution Manager 7.0 (SP10 is the Solution Manager 7.0 SP with which End-to-End Root Cause Analysis was initially shipped).
