1.How to create a custom template and switch off metrics for reporting?

Please perform the below mentioned steps to create custom template and disable the unwanted metrics
for Reporting.

a. Launch Solman_Setup-> Technical Monitoring -> System Monitoring ->
Template Maintenance.
b. Select the SAP Template which you have assigned to managed object
for monitoring.
c. Click on Create Custom Template button.
d. Custom template is created and shown in the display area.
e. Click on Metrics tab.
f. Select the Metric which is not required for reporting.
g. On the Metric details table, select "Data Usage" tab.
h. Deselect the check box "Send Values to SAP Netweaver Business
warehouse".
i. Click on Save button to save the changes.
j. Navigate to Define Scope step and select the required managed object
k. Navigate to Setup Monitoring step.
l. Assign and apply the custom template to the managed object.

Once the auto configuration is successful, reporting for the metrics
will be disabled.

4. How to remove system from Monitoring

If you do not want to monitor the system anymore, you can remove the system from Monitoring. This can be done on the "Define Scope" step.
Select the system and click on "Remove Monitoring" button.
Click on yes on the confirmation pop up.
The system would not be monitored any more and you will not receive any alerts for that system.
After this, if you want to monitor the system again, re run the auto configuration by clicking on "Apply and Activate" button on the Setup Monitoring step for the corresponding managed system.

5. Are Monitoring templates Client Specific

Monitoring templates are not Client Specific.

6. After the upgrade of the managed system, 2 templates of the same product but of different Product version are assigned to managed system. How to unassign the incorrect template

To remove the duplicate assignment, please perform the following steps.

a. Select the managed system in Define Scope step and navigate to Setup Monitoring step.
b. Select the system managed system and click on "Restore Defaults" button.
c. Once the Default is restored, the duplicate assignment will be lost.
d. Click on Apply and Activate button to start monitoring the system with the current template assigned.

7. Will there be any effect on the Custom templates when the new content version provided by SAP is applied on the Solution manager system

No, there would not be any changes to the Custom Templates.

once the latest content has been applied, the Metric, Alert or any content which has been changed or modified on the Custom template will not be changed after the content update.

But, new metrics or alerts available in the updated content will also be available in the custom templates.

8. The Managed Object Specific settings maintained are not taken into consideration during runtime

If the Assignment status is Yellow for the corresponding managed object on Setup Monitoring step after the Managed Object specific settings are maintained, this means that the settings you
maintained at the managed object template level is not activated on the managed object.

Please select the managed object and click on Apply and Activate button for the MO specific settings to be active.
Once this is done the Assignment Status and Setup Staus would turn Green for the managed object and managed object specific settings will be taken into consideration during run time.

9. How to maintain Notification settings at the managed object level

There is a way to get the notification based on the system wise.This is called as Managed Object specific configuration. Steps that needs performed to do Managed Object specific configuration.

a. On the Setup Monitoring step, after performing the auto configuration (Apply and Activate), click on "Configure Managed Object" button.
b. The template for the selected managed object will be opened in a new window.
c. Make the required settings on the Notifications tab of selected Alert or/and on the Notifications tab in the managed object template based on your requirement. Save the changes made and close the window. Refresh the Setup Monitoring step.
d. MO-Specific flag for the managed object will be ticked.
e. Click on Apply and Activate button to activate the changes made at the Managed Object level.

What ever settings you made in the Manged Object template, will be specific to the Manged Object. Likewise you can do the required configuration for all the required manged objects.

Once the Managed Specific settings are maintained, the template level settings will be ignored by run time and only Managed Object settings will be taken into consideration.

In case, you need maintain notification setting at a different level then follow the standard SAP help guide.

10. If I give any recipient id, in notifications tab at the template level, does the recipient get alert notifications for only the alerts in that template

If any settings are maintained only at the template level, the alerts which use the template settings will generate notifications based on the settings made on the "Notifications" tab at the template level.

If the same recipient list or recipients are being maintained in other templates, the alerts in the other templates would also use the same Recipients and Recipient lists for the notifications.

Once some specific settings are maintained at the template level, the settings maintained in Default settings (Step 2.4) will be ignored for the system which is using the template settings.

11. Notifications should be active only for alerts related to one particular category

Please perform the following steps to activate email notification only
for alerts related to a particular Category.

a. Navigate to Solman_Setup -> Technical Monitoring -> System Monitoring
-> Template Maintenance step.
b. Select the template you are planning to assign to the managed object.
c. Select Notifications tab.
d. Select the option Inactive for "Auto-Notifications".
e. Select Alerts tab.
f. Select the Alert related to the Category.
g. Select Notifications tab on Alert Details table.
h. Make the Auto-Notification active. Add the required recipient/recipient list IDs.
h. Click on save button.
i. On the Define Scope step, select the managed object required and navigate to Setup Monitoring step.
j. Assign and apply the template to the Managed Object.

Auto Notifications will be created only for the Alerts related to a specific category.

12. Notifications should be sent only for Red Alerts. Is it possible

Starting from SP09, this functionality is available.

13. Auto Notifications are not working

> Ensure that a valid email Id is available for background user who is triggering the auto-notifications.

> Check if the user intended to receive the notification is a recipient with a valid email/SMS.

> Check if the user intended to receive the notification is a recipient list(group) in which case check whether there are recipients in the recipient list. Please understand a recipient list is just a name of a group of recipients and only if there are recipients in it, can we send notifications.

> Check if the user intended to receive the notification has any notification settings and they are valid(on-duty, absences, substitutes etc).

> Check if the user intended to receive the notification has any on-Duty notification settings with factory calendar and holiday calendar mentioned. In such a case, please goto transaction SCAL and check if the calendars are upto date. If they are already expired, please refer to Note 501670(manual update) or 1426524(automatic update - Not recommended so it is Pilot release - If needed please raise a request against the component XX-CSC-XX)

16. Data is not being collected for some metrics and the status is gray on System Monitoring

a. Navigate to Solman_Setup->Technical Monitoring -> System Monitoring -> Update Content step (Step 2.7).

b. Ensure that latest content from SAP has been imported and applied on the Update Content step. Check for the timestamp of Imported time and Applied time to know whether the conent has been recently imported and applied.

c. Navigate to Setup Monitoring step by selecting the required scope on "Define Scope" step.

d. Click on Apply and Activate button for the content to be active.

The gray metrics problem should be solved with this solution. If the problem is still not solved, please raise a message.

17. How to setup auto notifications for alerts at Global level

Please perform the following steps to enable auto notification
for the alerts related to System Monitoring scenario.

a. Navigate to Solman_Setup->Technical Monitoring -> System Monitoring
b. Select Default Settings step (Step 2.3).
c. Select Notifications tab.
d. Select the option "Active" from the Auto Notification drop down list.
e. Add the required recipients/recipient lists by clicking on Add button on Recipient and Recipient list table.
f. Save the changes made.
g. On the Template Maintenance step, ensure that templates are using Global Settings for Auto Notifications, if the Alerts at the template level would like to use Global Settings.
h. Navigate to Setup Monitoring step by selecting the required scope on Define Scope step.
i. Click on Apply and Activate button.

Automatic Notifications will be sent to the recipients when the alerts are raised.

18. How to change the Threshold values for a metric

a. Navigate to Solman_Setup->Technical Monitoring -> System Monitoring

b. Select Template Maintenance step.

c. Select the Custom Template.

d. Select the Metrics tab on the Custom template.

e. Select the metric for which the Threshold value need to be changed.

f. Click on Change Settings button.

g. Select the Thresholds tab.

h. Change the Threshold type/ value and save the changes made.

i. Navigate to Setup Monitoring step by selecting the required scope on Define Scope step.
j. Click on Apply and Activate button.

20. Transport of Templates

Custom Templates created ( in Technical System Monitoring Scenario ) in '$TMP' ( local package ) are only local to that system. They cannot be transported to any other systems.

The Package of a Template once created can never be changed.
The only solution would be to use the 'Copy Custom Template' functionality to create a copy of the custom template and assign a different package.

If the usecase is to create the custom template in development system and then transport it to production system, then while creating the custom template , they should be assigned to a valid package.

21. How to Remove the Monitoring of all Managed Objects at once

You can remove the Monitoring of all the managed objects at once, by selecting the required managed objects on Define Scope step.
Please perform the following steps.
a. Navigate to Solman_Setup -> Technical Monitoring -> System Monitoring
b. Select Define Scope step.
c. Ensure you are in edit mode.
d. Select the tab Technical System/Databases/Hosts based on your requirement.
e.If you would like to delete the monitoring of Technical Systems, select the tab "Technical Systems.
f. Select the required systems from the table and click on "Remove Monitoring" button.
The monitoring of the systems will be removed and the template assignment to the Technical systems will be lost.
And you can start doing the configuration for monitoring again.

22. Technical system Status is Gray/Grey for HANA system.

Technical System Status would be gray for HANA systems, as there are no default templates available for these systems.
Perform the following steps to make the Monitoring Status Green for HANA Technical System.

  • Go to template maintenance section 4,
  • Under technical systems select the 'generic template'.
  • once you select this, then choose to create a custom template, this will create one based on this generic template. You can choose to edit this then in any way you like.
  • Next in step 5 choose the HANA system you want to define the scope for.
  • Finally in step 6 'Setup Monitoring', you can then choose to 'Assign Templates' on the technical system managed object and from the dropdown menu, choose the custom template you just created.
  • Then when you apply and activate for this managed object, it will turn from grey to green.

SP08-1. Resolving Self Diagnosis checks

 - Check the Notes 1759626 has been implemented in the system

 - After the Note Implementation , Import the latest SP08 content ( steps to import the content has been suggested in Note 1742119  ).

- After the latest content is imported and applied, use the Report Programs in Note 1696166 to clear any inconsistent entries.

 

23.How do I switch off Monitoring and Alerting during a Planned downtime?

24. How do I create a Work Mode for several systems simultaneously?

create a technical scenario of type "workmode management". Insert all relevant systems into this scenario and schedule work modes for it.

25. Cannot change the template assignment. Getting the message Cannot change template assignment as managed object settings exist.

The reason you are not able to change the template assignment for the managed Objects is, MO-Specific setting flag is ON. Meaning, there are some specific settings maintained for the managed Objects.

If you would like to change the template assignment, following steps  need to be followed.

1. Select the Managed Object for which the MO-Specific flag is ON.

2. Click on "Maintain MO-Specific settings" link. Managed Object template would be launched.

3. Click on Expert Mode button on Managed Object template.

4. Ensure you are in edit mode.

5. Click on the "Reset all settings" button.

6.  Save the changes made.

7. On the Setup Monitoring step, click on the Refresh button.

8. MO-Specific flag would be OFF.

Now you can change the template assignment.

26. Short dump CX_SY_REF_IS_INITIAL when working with metric variants when working with Support pack level SP09 and above.

Please implement the notes 1952450 and 1972475.

In SP9, there was a change in the way metric variants are handled. One of the technical attributes of metric variants is interpreted in a new way. Therefore, any metric variants that were created while an older SP (i.e. SP8 or below) was applied must be readjusted in order to be handled correctly.

In addition, there is a program error that manifests in certain cases.
