SAP Technical Analytics

Today’s business processes are embedded in a global market with participants all over the world. To guarantee the highest availability and performance from almost every location is not just a challenge for huge companies anymore. SAP Technical Analytics is an efficient feature for evaluating and reporting the availability and performance of your productive systems. The reports are structured and designed to provide information which can help to do trend analysis as well as statistical evaluation of technical component usage.


Strategic positioning of Technical Analytics

Technical Analytics comprises of Technical Reporting and Management Reporting addressing the needs of Technical, Business and management teams. Proactive identification, analysis, and resolution of issues has been speed up dramatically with the integration of Monitoring, Alerting, E2E Diagnostics and Administration infrastructure leading to a lower TCO and increased ROI.

In addition to the central SAP Solution Manager where eve­ry piece of adminis­tration, monitor­ing, alerting and diagnostics takes place, Technical Analytics provides an aggregated overview of the System, DBMS and Host behavior over a period of time; provides dashboards to visualize the trends in various categories such as Availability, Performance, Exceptions, Capacity and Usage. It offers Real time SLA management and reporting to administrators, managers and customers. Based on the trend analysis, optimization of internal processes and IT setups is more efficient. Jump-in capability in RCA and metric viewer with zoom functionality feature offers great flexibility to go from high level overview to in depth details in matter of few clicks. Technical Analytics can be classified into two groups broadly:  Technical Reporting and Management Reporting offering wide variety of reports addressing the needs of management and technical teams alike. Some of the reports include document based reports, highly interactive reports, customizable reports and management dashboards.

Most important aspects of the Technical Analytics are as following:

Document based Reporting: Create your own regularly reporting document with predefined or customer specific content.

Interactive Reporting:  Get an aggregated Overview of System, DBMS and Host behaviour over time, Visualize trends and monitor the SLA compliance in real time.

Management Reporting: Predefined and customizable dashboards with a single view combining several key reports.

Interactive Reporting

Interactive reports are designed to get an aggregated overview of system, database and host behavior over a period of time, thereby able to visualize trends in various categories such as Availability, Performance, Exceptions, Capacity and Usage. 


Also, it offers real time monitoring of compliance of defined SLAs and to optimize the internal processes and setups of IT department (alert reporting, unused RFC destinations). Interactive Reporting also provides a jump-in capability into RCA applications and  metric viewer allowing single metrics to be analyzed in detail regarding their behavior over a period of time.

Technical Monitoring Work Center

You get access to the Interactive Reporting via the Technical Monitoring Work Center. Interactive Reporting provides you with various pre-defined reports about availability, performance, capacity and usage of your systems, scenarios, databases and hosts for a certain time frame.

Reports Overview

Following table will give an overview of what is available as part of System Overview Reports.  and System Specific Reports (ABAP and JAVA).


System Specific Reports – ABAP & JAVA  : Dashboards based on the technology with ease of jumping from overview into system specific reports to drill down and analyse the usage based on the most important KPIs providing insight into entire system on one single screen with KPI dashboards

From the System Reports Overview screen, Reports from all the categories are available. Reports such as System Availability across systems, Utilization, Response times distribution are available. 

You can see the system-specific reports by selecting the corresponding tab on top of the screen. For all selected systems the following categories and KPIs are provided for ABAP and JAVA systems respectively as shown in the tables.

Metric Monitor

Separated instance view to focus the analysis on specific instances and metrics related to that. Ease of switching among instances with a drop down list of instances.  With the feature of Trend Analysis and zoom function, even the complex KPIs trend can be analyzed with ease.


Document-Based Reporting

Create  your own regular reporting document with predefined or customer specific content, you have the possibility to create an Early Watch Alert and Comprehensive service level management and  reporting to administrators, managers and customers addressing the support of strategic decisions.  The Service Level Reports facilitate periodic reporting on different KPIs that are relevant to adhere with your specific service level agreements (SLAs) related to your solution.

Management Reporting

The reporting of technically-based KPIs, as done with the Interactive Reporting, is sufficient to support technical IT administrators and root cause analysis teams during their daily operations. At the management level, it is essential to get reports covering holistic view of overall solution and business processes to perform cost estimation and forecast planning.

This triggers the need to consolidate the information from a wide variety data sources to perform trend analysis with regards to availability and performance. Management Reports are dashboard-based reports with high level of data aggregation and interpretation. The dashboard technology allows seeing several reports on one view and the report arrangement and their content is customizable with ease.
