SAP Support in Virtual and Private Cloud Environments

General Support Statement for Virtual Environments - How to Interprete SAP Note 1492000

With the General Support Statement for Virtual Environments, SAP provides a central entry point for information about support of SAP applications, operating systems, and databases in virtual and in private cloud environments.

To get a matrix of the supported combinations of SAP applications, operating system, virtualization technology and database version, you have to use the information in the Product Availability Matrix (PAM) and of SAP Note 1492000 as follows:

  • SAP releases its applications for certain operating systems and their versions. For the operating system versions supported by your SAP application, check the Product Availability Matrix (http://support.sap.com/pam).
  • SAP supports specified virtualization solutions and technologies for use with a guest operating system. For supported virtualization solutions and technologies, check the platform-specific notes in section 3 of SAP Note 1492000
  • SAP supports all its applications and components - except BWA and SAP ITS 6.20 - on the supported stack of virtualization solution, operating system and database. For exceptions and specific configuration requirements for your SAP application, check section 2 of SAP Note 1492000.
  • Your database vendor might specify support restrictions for the use of its software in a virtual environment. For the support statement of your database vendor, check section 4 of SAP Note 1492000.

Support for SAP Components in a Public Cloud (IaaS) Environment

In an IaaS environment, the General Support Statement for Virtual Environments does not apply and therefore the supported SAP applications in these environments rely on the supported cloud service providers and their IaaS offerings.

SAP Support in Cloud Environments - How to Read SAP Note 1380654

To get a matrix of the supported combinations of SAP applications, operating system, database version and cloud offering, you have to use the information in the Product Availability Matrix (PAM) and of SAP Note 1380654 as follows:

  • SAP releases its applications for certain combinations of databases, operating systems and their versions. For the database and operating system versions supported by your SAP application, check the Product Availability Matrix (http://support.sap.com/pam).
  • SAP supports specified cloud service offerings. For a list of supported cloud service providers and support prerequisites for SAP software in an IaaS environment, check SAP Note 1380654.
  • For every cloud service provider, SAP specifies the VM instance types, the guest operating system and database versions supported for the IaaS partner offering and the SAP applications which can be operated on the supported stack of VM instance type, operating system and database. The related SAP Notes to check are referenced in SAP Note 1380654.
