IT101 | Rich Heilman | Leveraging the Power of HANA by Pushing Processing and Logic into the Database using SQLScript With the introduction of SAP HANA, SAP developers from all backgrounds can now exploit the power of a columnar, in-memory database. To fully leverage the power of SAP HANA, developers need to learn to push more of the application processing down into the database. This is done by writing more of the logic in SQL and SQLScript. In this session, we will cover the introductory basics of SQLScript in SAP HANA as well as cover some of the most common troubleshooting techniques. We will also see some more advanced techniques such as how to integrate R (programming language) into SAP HANA processing via SQLScript. |
IT102 | Ron Silberstein | SAP HANA Application Services SAP HANA actually contains a lightweight application server embedded within the in-memory database. This application server is called SAP HANA application services (sometimes referred to as XS Engine). In this session, we will provide a look into the future: discussing the architecture, technology, and development model of SAP HANA application services. |
IT103 | John Appleby | Live BW on HANA Migration Part 1 Customers have huge interest in running their BW Data Warehouse on the SAP HANA database but people sometimes think this is harder than it is. So, I am going to migrate a BW system onto SAP HANA, live, onto a Mac Mini. I'll show you how to install the SAP HANA database and how to run the SAP BW migration toolkit to import a BW database into SAP HANA. I'll walk through the process in detail whilst the migration runs including some top tips for success. |
IT104 | John Appleby | Live BW on HANA Migration Part 2 What does a freshly migrated BW on HANA system look like? What do HANA optimised BW objects look like? What is different from BW on any other database and what is the performance improvement of data loads and queries? I will do this comparison by loading data, live, and comparing it against the original BW on a traditional RDBMS. |
IT105 | Ron Silberstein | SAP HANA Direct Extractor Connection SAP HANA Direct Extractor Connection (DXC) is a simple, low TCO data acquisition technique for SAP HANA which leverages existing delivered foundational data models - DataSources - in SAP Business Suite systems. Understand how DXC can significantly reduce complexity of data modeling tasks in SAP HANA, accelerating project timelines. Explore how DXC provides semantically rich data from SAP Business Suite to SAP HANA. Grasp the details of the simple http-based interface that sends data from SAP Business Suite systems to SAP HANA. This session will dive into the details of how DXC works, the key steps in setting it up and configuring it, and walks through a comparison/contrast with other data provisioning techniques available for SAP HANA to help you determine for which use cases it is most beneficial. |
IT106 | John Astill | Creating a simple SAP Cloud application using the SAP Developer Center Cloud trial A live coding session showing how to create a simple SAP Cloud application leveraging the trial license available on SAP Developers Center. IT203 | Peter McNulty | Process Visibility In this session, we will: provide in-depth coverage and demo of the process observer technology to enable visibility into built-in processes (managing business process performance in real-time at the process instance level within and across SAP systems), introduce the concepts and benefits of process gateway (opening up SAP processes, allowing them to be accessed in a uniform way to make it possible for developers to create applications that operate on end-to-end business processes), and preview how SAP plans to bring this to next level with Operational Process Intelligence powered by HANA . |
IT204 | Tim Nguyen | TCO Study on Implementing FAST VP for SAP EMC would like to share with fellow ASUG members the results of the TCO study on implementing FAST VP for SAP on VMAX at fellow ASUG installation member Callaway Golf, as well as at Eli Lilly, Nike, and TXU Energy (as was done at EMC World 2012). EMC will also discuss its successful SAP GoLive of July 5th as part of Project PROPEL. |
IT205 | Peter McNulty | Sybase ESP (Event Stream Processing) Businesses have discovered the power of Complex Event Processing (CEP) for situational awareness and real-time response. By analyzing the flood of incoming events in real-time, CEP can identify what’s meaningful - and the appropriate response. Gain immediate insight into real-time events. Continuously analyze live data about markets, transactions, customers, and operations. Respond faster to emerging threats and opportunities. Make decisions based on the current environment rather than yesterday’s information. Come and here what Sybase ESP (Event Stream Processing) can do for SAP, Business Objects & NetWeaver Customers |
IT206 | Greg Myers | Root Cause Analysis of SAP BusinessObjects system issues using Remote Support Component This presentation will outline tactics and strategies on how to use the Remote Support Component tool ("Solution Manager Lite") provided by SAP Support to conduct deep-dive analysis into performance and system issues you may be experiencing with your SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise system. See how to build fact-based analyses without the need for parsing trace logs. |
IT207 | Bala Prabahar | Continuous Learners - Come, Learn One (or a few) More Tip(s)! Training and Certification has been a hot topic within SAP community for a long time. In my opinion, both training and certification serves a purpose. And if taken appropriately, it would benefit the participants tremendously. What are the tips? How to maximize the benefits from attending training programs? Come, learn from someone who continues to invest his time and $$$ on SAP's training programs and believes in Continuous Learning. |
IT301 | Ritesh Menon | Bring Velocity to “New Product Introductions”(NPI) with BPM: A case study on how SAP BPMS technologies are enabling a CPG customer to introduce new products faster and more effectively to the market. The ability to introduce new products is critical, not just for the growth, but even the survival of companies in today's consumer choice driven economies. The BPM approach and BPMS technology brings together the large number of people, departments, locations, processes and systems to work as one end-to-end orchestrated process, reducing the time to market and cost to value for NPI. Additionally, you also get the agility to adapt to changing consumer needs and market conditions both locally and globally. BPM is not a question of if; it's a question of how. Get fresh insights on how you can get started or further your journey in accelerating your NPI processes with BPM and BPMS. We will present a demo as well along with the presentation. |
IT302 | Rob Jackson | Using cloud "Infrastructure as a Service" Storage to enable data archiving and document management in SAP While SAP data and document archiving is touted as a cost-saving and performance enhancing measure, the archived content still needs to be stored and the cost associated with that consumes physical and human resources. This session explores common storage concerns that are associated with an on-premise (physical or virtualized) archiving environment and provides options for overcoming them. Know your options for leveraging cloud storage for SAP archived data and documents as a low-risk and cost-effective option. Step through demos that show how it enables a direct connection from the SAP archiving layer to major public cloud providers such as AT&T Synaptic Storage as a Service, Amazon S3, Rackspace and Google Cloud. |
IT303 | Rajasekhar Gummadapu | Financial Budgeting & Forecasting Implementation with BPC 10 PMI has embarked on a journey to implement BPC 10 to automate Annual Budgeting and Monthly Forecasting Process and Partnered with Techwave Consulting for this important project. We will also share lessons learned and some design ideas which can benefit Organization planning to implement BPC 10 - new version on the block. |
IT304 | KK Ramamoorthy | Error Handling Framework for Asynchronous web services using Forward Error Handler Errors are inevitable in any integration scenario. Though could be vastly minimized, they cannot be avoided all together. Hence it becomes important to have a strategy to handle them in a timely manner. Especially when it comes to Asynchronous integration, it is an expectation that the receiver of the message handles the errors. SAP has a little known, out of the box tool called Forward Error Handler available within the business suite applications. This tools provides ways for monitoring, grouping and reprocessing interface errors and also has forward navigation capabilities within the business suite. In this session, we will have a live demo on how to use this tool and it can be customized to suit specific customer requirements. |
IT305 | Suvas Pandya | Integration Acceleration Framework for BPC Microsoft One of the biggest challenges when implementing BPC for Microsoft is seamless and scalable data integration with corporate systems. For those customers currently running BPC for Microsoft, the BPM Connect Integration Framework solves this gap. BPM Connect provides both a best practices method and toolset to facilitate stable, consistent, and secure inbound, outbound, cube-to-cube and intra-cube transfer of data within BPC MS. Some of the specific problems addressed in this presentation are near real-time integration with the accounting general ledger, dynamic and interactive master data feeds, and flexible non-base level drill through. This integration framework has been applied at over 50+ customers worldwide with repeatable success allowing accelerated business decision making within the BPC system. |
IT306 | Jochen Hager | Create departmental document management applications by design If your company is like most, you will have a large number of small departmental non-SAP applications built with tools like Excel or Access.
