As of SAP Solution Manager EhP1, there is a new, automatic, basic configuration. You can access it with transaction code SOLMAN_SETUP. It allows an easy and fast step-by-step configuration of SAP Solution Manager. A guided activity leads you through the configuration steps. A lot of previously time-consuming steps are now done automatically. Every step has an integrated documentation and the configuration is integrated in the project management via SOLAR02. So it is easy to keep track of the open and performed tasks. You can postpone activities and easly access them later on by calling SOLMAN_SETUP again. Additionally, SOLMAN_SETUP allows to configure all managed systems from one central entry point.

The automatic basic configuration is divided into a roadmap of three sections:

  • The first section is the System Prepration . This setup prepares the system for the configuration. It has to be fully performed for new installed systems. If the SAP Solution Manager was upgraded, you have to perform it to run an update of the authorizations of the administrative user.
  • The Basic Configuration configures the basic scenarios in SAP Solution Manager. It can also be used on already configured SAP Solution Manager systems to perform delta configuration. It includes the following scenarios:
    • Service Delivery & Collaboration
    • Issue Management
    • Early Watch Alerts
    • Root Cause Analysis (also known as SMD or Diagnostics)
    • Maintenance Optimizer
  • The Managed System Configuration deals with the connection and configuration of the managed systems for the scenarios of the basic configuration. This section can be used for every new managed system.

All steps of the guided activity have an consistent design, which makes it easier for you to navigate. On the top of the guided activity, you get a roadmap telling you where you are in the basic configuration.
Every step contains a Help section, which is marked in orange on the slide. The Help section provides detailed information to each step, such as what needs to be done and what will happen in the background.
The Activities section, which is marked blue on the slide, lists all activities during each step along with the documentation for the IMG activity. The documentation from the IMG activity describes what exactly has to be done, e.g. in manual steps, and also provides error-handling procedures. If you have to provide input values for a step, you will enter them in the activities section as well.
The Log section shows detailed logs for every activity that was performed.
