Competition Rules and Regulations

Entrants must be authorized representatives of SAP customers and partners to compete and as further provided below.

Project must be commercially deployable:  Only representatives of customers or partners who have a productive developer license of SAP NetWeaver CE(either as part of an SAP NetWeaver developer user license, or via the [SDN subscription program|]) allowing them to commercially deploy their project are eligible.  SAP customer number (S-user) must be entered in the nomination form.  *Submissions based on trial licenses are not eligible. If you have any questions about your SAP license please call your SAP account executive.

Stage of Development: Project must be at least a working prototype or pilot composite application built with SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1.

How to enter the competition: 

  1. Complete a description of your project using the application template.  Paste the template and description of your project into a power point presentation.
  2. Create a digital or streaming video file showing your application in action.  A voice over explanation is suggested. Any standard video file format is acceptable including (.SWF, .WMV, .AVI, .MOV, or .MPG).
  3. Place both your video file and application presentation into a zip file.
  4. Send an email to and request an upload link.  You will be sent a SAPMats container where you can place the zip file containing the your project description and movie file.

Eligibility:  Not withstanding the above, the following individuals are not eligible to participate in the competition:  (1) employees of and family members employed by  SAP AG, SAP America, Inc., their affiliates and subsidiaries; (2) employees of and family members employed by, or in any other way affiliated with or related to, government entities, government officials or any other person or entity in the public sector; and (3) employees of and family members employed by, current or prospective SAP customers, vendors and partners with which SAP is currently engaged in any pending bidding or negotiation process.

Submission Conditions and Deadlines: 

  1. Nominations of projects for the SAP NetWeaver "Top Composite Competition" open on July 9, 2008.  For consideration for each Tech Ed event, projects must be submitted by the following deadlines:
    • SAP TechEd Las Vegas:          Monday, Aug 4, 2008; winners announced Aug 11, 2008
    • SAP TechEd Berlin:                  Friday Sep 5, 2008; winners announced Sept 12, 2008
    • SAP TechEd Shanghai:            Monday Oct 6, 2008;   winners announced Oct 13, 2008
    • SAP TechEd Bangalore:           Monday Oct 13, 2008; winners announced Oct 20, 2008
  2. By submission entrant grants SAP permission to announce winners names including posting on SAP sites without compensation. By submitting the Survey, Entrant agrees to be bound by all of these Conditions, and this Survey and Prize Award is subject to these complete and official rules.
  3. By submitting project entrant represents that it is an authorized representative of licensed customer or partner (as provided in Section 2 above) and that all content included in the submission has been authorized by such licensed customer or partner, and that entrant has the rights to submit the submission including any video medium used to provide the submission. 
  4. Entrant agrees SAP is not responsible and assumes all liability for injuries caused or claimed to be caused by participation in this Competition as well as any prize awarded and  releases and holds harmless SAP including its subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees and agents from any and all liability or any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with the Competition or any prize award.
  5. Projects may be resubmitted for consideration for multiple legs.  However, a customer or partner can only win one prize between any and all legs of the competition.

Judging Criteria

We are looking for the best examples of composite applications built with SAP NetWeaver 7.1.  Under this Competition, winning projects will be selected by a judging committee made up of SAP Mentors and SAP NetWeaver CE experts on the basis of the following criteria:

    1. Clear benefits derived from clever use of composition and model-driven development techniques, such as:
      • Faster time to market
      • Significant reuse of components
      •  Efficiency and productivity in development
      • Simplification
      • Reduced cost of ownership
    2. Innovative use of SAP NetWeaver components, SAP Applications, and third party product
    3. Minimal effort for maximum business impact
    4. Engaging User experiences

The Judging committee will be selected at SAP discretion and subject to availability. 

Prizes: The entrant (maximum two people --if team submission) will be eligible to to win the following:

  1. Up to two finalists submissions will be selected by the judging committee per SAP TechEd conference.  Each of the  finalists chosen will receive an iPod 8GB Nano (if team --both team members).
  2. One winning project will be selected from the finalists for each SAP TechEd conference.  Members of each of each winning project will receive free admissions to TechEd. In addition, these attendees will be invited to co-present in one of the educational sessions about their project.  Winners will be responsible for their own travel, lodging and any other costs of attending Tech--Ed. Free admissions to TechEd awarded can not be sold or otherwise transferred. Winners will need to register for Tech Ed and be responsible for their own travel, lodging and any other costs of attending the conference.  Winners presenting at TechEd are subject to SAP's normal conditions for presentation and otherwise at SAP sole discretion.   Unaccepted prizes may not be awarded.

Disclaimer:  SAP assumes no responsibility or liability for lost, incomplete, incorrect, or misdirected submissions and submissions will not be returned.  Incomplete or submissions will not be eligible for the Prize Award. Use of a false email account will disqualify a submission. SAP, in its sole discretion, can disqualify any person who tampers with the process or who otherwise violates these rules.  SAP reserves the right to cancel, terminate or modify the Competition and substitute any Prize Award if it cannot be completed as planned or due to any conditions beyond SAP's reasonable control.   

Anything to the contrary nothwithstanding, this Competition or anything related to it, does not modify or otherwise change the terms or conditions under which SAP NetWeaver CE was licensed or any other SAP agreement.

This Competition is void where prohibited by any law or regulation
