Purpose

The purpose of this wiki is to provide more information on the use of parameters "MAX Runtime" and "Scheduler Monitoring" in SMQS and SMQR.

Overview

In this wiki we will look at different scenarios after setting sample values for "Max Runtime" and "Scheduler Monitoring".

Setting parameters "Max Runtime" and "Scheduler Monitoring"

Parameters "MAX Runtime" and "Scheduler Monitoring" can be set in transaction SMQS/SMQR.

To set the parameters in SMQS:

Highlight the destination in SMQS and chosoe "Edit" in the menu and then "Registration":

The following screen will be shown. from here you will be able to modify the "Max Runtime" and" "Scheduler Monitoring" parameters:

To set the values in SMQ,R highlight the Queue Name and follow the same steps mentioned above ==> " Edit" ==> "Registration".

Scenario 1

“Max Runtime”  =  30 minutes and “Scheduler Monitoring”  =  40 minutes

  • The destination scheduler starts “Queue Scheduler A” which runs for  35 minutes.
  • As it has gone over 30 minutes the destination scheduler will no longer check for new queues.
  • If a new queue is ready at 31 minutes the destination scheduler starts after 35 minutes when “Queue Scheduler A”  has finished.

Scenario 2

“Max Runtime”  =  30 minutes and “Scheduler Monitoring”  =  40 minutes

  • The destination scheduler starts “Queue Scheduler A” which runs for 45 minutes.
  •  As it has gone over 30 minutes the destination scheduler will no longer check for new queues.
  •  If a new queue is ready at 31 minutes the new destination scheduler process this queue after 40 minutes (value of scheduler monitoring) then there are 2 destination schedulers running at the same time.
