General Questions

1. What is SAP IBP Starter Edition?

SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP) is SAP's new, state-of-the art platform for real-time, integrated supply chain planning – built on SAP HANA, for Cloud deployment. SAP IBP has been developed to deliver integrated, unified planning across sales and operations, demand, inventory, response and supply planning, as well as the supply chain control tower for dashboard analytics and monitoring.  SAP IBP delivers a new paradigm of user experience and efficiency, leveraging real-time dashboards, advanced predictive analytics, interactive simulation, embedded social collaboration and Microsoft Excel-enabled planning tables.  For more information, please see the IBP 1-page product overview here.

SAP Integrated Business Planning starter edition, non-production (“SAP IBP Starter Edition” or “starter edition”), is a less-expensive, limited-usage version of SAP IBP.  Cloud Test & Demo for Integrated Business Planning is the name of the partner version of SAP IBP Starter Edition.

The following restrictions apply to SAP IBP Starter Edition:

Size

256 GB virtual instance

Number of concurrent users

Up to 10

Customer data

Up to 50 million Total Planning Points1

Customer-defined planning areas

Up to 5 planning areas

Use of order-based data model

No2

Productive use

No

1Total Planning Points is defined as the total number of stored key figure values in the IBP system, taking into consideration the number of Stored Key Figures, Planning Combinations, Time Periods and Scenarios/Versions.  A planning point is similar to a planning cell in a spreadsheet.

2See question “Which modules for SAP Integrated Business Planning are included in the starter edition?” below.

2. What is the difference between the starter edition and the “enterprise edition”?

SAP IBP Starter Edition has restrictions on the system size and the number of users (see question “What is SAP IBP Starter Edition?” above). The starter edition is generally used for trial usage and proof-of-concept projects. The starter edition may not be used for productive use.

The starter edition has different contract terms, including the subscription duration.  When purchased via the SAP Store, the starter edition has a 3-month, automatically renewing subscription.

For partners, the starter edition can be used to grow your application consulting expertise and develop unique point-of-view and service offerings.

3. Can I use SAP IBP Starter Edition productively?

No.

4. Which applications for SAP Integrated Business Planning are included in the starter edition?

All five applications of SAP IBP (demand, inventory, response and supply, sales and operations, supply chain control tower) are included in starter edition.

However, it is not possible to use or copy the order-based data model (Planning Area SAP7) or the SDI-based integration models, part of the response and supply module, with starter edition.  It is possible to use the time-series-based data model functionality of the response and supply module with starter edition.  In the future, we plan to offer a version of SAP IBP Starter Edition that will support the order-based data model, at an additional cost (timing to be determined).

5. Is the system pre-configured, or is there any pre-defined “demo content”?

As with all IBP systems, the sample models (Planning areas SAP1, SAP2, etc.) are already installed, including the Unified Planning Area (SAPIBP1).

The starter edition is also delivered with the SAP Best Practices for SAP Integrated Business Planning (formerly known as Rapid Deployment Solution or RDS) content (activated planning area, uploaded sample data, configured planning views, configured analytics, etc.) pre-installed.  For more information, please see the documentation here.

At this time, there is no pre-defined “demo content” or “demo scripts” for SAP IBP Starter Edition.

6. Is there an on premise version of SAP IBP Starter Edition?

SAP Integrated Business Planning is only available as a cloud solution.

7. How can I upgrade to the “enterprise edition” of SAP Integrated Business Planning?

Please contact your SAP Account Executive.

Technical Questions

24. Who provides the hosting services for this offering?

SAP Cloud.  It is not possible to host SAP Integrated Business Planning in 3rd-party clouds.

25. Where are the Data Centers located for this offering?

SAP IBP Starter Edition is currently hosted in the following SAP Data Centers:

  • North America: Sterling, Virginia, USA
  • Europe: Frankfurt, Germany
  • Russia: Moscow, Russia
  • Saudi Arabia: Riyadh
  • United Arab Emirates: Dubai
  • Greater China: Shanghai, China
  • Asia-Pacific: Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
  • Japan: Tokyo, Japan (coming soon)

26. Can I select the data center for my instance?

For IBP Starter Edition, the data center is determined by the location of the customer, based on the customer account information.

For Cloud Test & Demo for IBP, the data center must be specified at time of purchase in the order form.

27. Can I change any of the restrictions such as virtual instance size or number of users?

The starter edition is not intended to be an expandable, scalable solution, but rather a low-cost, short-term “try before you buy” option.  In order to have an IBP system with more capacity, more users, etc. is to purchase a subscription to the IBP “enterprise edition”.

28. How do I get support?

Active community help and resources are available on the SAP Community Network pages for SAP Integrated Business Planning (http://scn.sap.com/community/scm/ibp).  You can also receive support from the SAP Support Portal using SAP standard incident reporting (https://support.sap.com).  The main component is SCM-IBP.

Upgrade Questions

29. What is the release level of SAP IBP Starter Edition?

The current release for the starter edition is SAP Integrated Business Planning 1811.  The release level of the starter edition will change as new releases of SAP IBP (1902, 1905, etc.) become available.

30. How do I get upgrades?

Systems are upgraded automatically with patches every 4 to 6 weeks by SAP.  Expected downtimes during upgrades are specified in the Terms and Conditions (license agreement).  For more information, please see the presentation on the SAP IBP Upgrade Process at https://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/display/SCM/SAP+IBP+Upgrade+Planning.

31. Do automatic upgrades include new releases of IBP?

The subscription to IBP starter edition includes upgrades to subsequent releases of IBP.  For example, if you purchase starter edition on IBP release 1811, your system will be upgraded to IBP release 1902 automatically and at no cost.

Integration Questions

32. Do I need to use SAP Jam?

No, SAP Jam is not mandatory. However, we strongly recommend using SAP Jam, as this is required to do any of the S&OP Process Modeling and Collaboration.  SAP Jam is licensed separately.

33. How can I get access to SAP Jam?

For customers, if you are based in the United States, please contact your SuccessFactors sales representative, call +1-800-845-0395, or use the online form: http://www.successfactors.com/en_us/company/contact-us.html.

For partners, to obtain a license for SAP Jam, please get in touch with your Partner Services Advisor.

Time-limited Jam demo licenses are available.  For information on ordering a demo system, see the Demo Request Tool User Guide, which is available on the SuccessFactors Partner Portal at https://partners.successfactors.com/demo-partners/SitePages/PartnerDemoManager-User.aspx.  Contact your Partner Services Advisor if you do not have your login credentials.

The SAP Jam system must be “Enterprise Edition.” Instructions for integrating SAP IBP to SAP Jam will be provided after purchasing the SAP IBP Starter Edition and receiving your system credentials.

Please note that it is not allowed in any case to connect a partner’s Cloud Test & Demo for IBP system to a customer’s system (e.g. SAP ECC, SAP APO or legacy) directly through SAP Cloud Platform Integration for data services or any other technique.

37. How can I get access to SAP HANA Cloud Platform, integration service?

SAP Cloud Platform Integration for data services (formerly “SAP HANA Cloud Integration” or “HCI”) is included with your subscription to SAP IBP Starter Edition.  You will receive information on how to access the integration service once your starter edition system is provisioned.
