In General
Preferences and Settings made in the configurator of the SAP ECTR Interface to PTC Creo are stored in the local configuration file "SAPECTRInterface.prefs".
This configuration file is stored in the following place:
<INSTALLATION SAP ECTR>\applications\pro\customize\config
When the SAP ECTR Interface to PTC Creo is started the configuration file "SAPECTRInterface.prefs" is read from the following directories and in the given order:
1. | Default | C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\.riess\SAP Engineering Control Center interface to PTC Creo |
Also SAP ECTR centralized configuration if activated | C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Local\SAP\ECTR\conf\... | |

The parameters are updated by the last read value.
Possible start error of the SAP ECTR Interface to PTC Creo with a patch level < 37
Symptom:
If SAP ECTR Interface to PTC Creo with a patch level >= 37 was used and a SAP ECTR Interface to PTC Creo with a patch level < 37 should be stared it is possible that:
- The SAP ECTR Interface to PTC Creo does not start anymore.
- Also: The configurator of the SAP ECTR Interface to PTC Creo does not start anymore.
- Shown error: Error starting application 'PRO': ' Illegal key/value pair in preferences file. Value was: "2019-05-03"
Reason:
As of patch 37 of the SAP ECTR Interface to PTC Creo the format of the configuration file "SAPECTRInterface.prefs" has changed for technical reasons.
Unfortunately older patch levels of the SAP ECTR Interface to PTC Creo can no longer read the new formatting.
Compatibility of the configuration file:

Solution:
Recommendation:
- Before update from a patch level < 37 to a patch level >= 37 save the current configuration file "SAPECTRInterface.prefs" for a possible reinstallation of a patch level < 37.
- Do not administer your productive system with a patch level that is newer than the one which is currently used in the productive system.
If a SAP ECTR Interface to PTC Creo with a patch level >= 37 was used and a SAP ECTR Interface to PTC Creo with a patch level < 37 should be stared delete the configuration file "SAPECTRInterface.prefs" in the following directories:
