Purpose

In this page you will find the resources to get started using Tricentis Test Automation for SAP Solution Manager 7.2 (Acronym: TTA). This page is dedicated to the on-premise version of TTA. We will assume in this page that you have already accepted the Terms and Conditions of TTA and that you have downloaded the software from SAP. The overall documentation of TTA is fully available online here.

Overview

TTA is a subset of Tricentis Tosca. It uses the same concepts for automated test cases but with a usage restricted to SAP applications, therefore if you are familiar with Tricentis Tosca you will recognize many screens from the application itself. The manuals are also extremely similar. There will be functionalities, that you will NOT find in TTA like (for example) the Test Case Design capabilities, or the requirement and issue management. TTA is meant to be used with SAP Solution Manager. SAP Solution Manager being the test management tool (for testing, planning, reporting, and more) and TTA being the automation engine. The integration between SAP Solution Manager relies on the SM-TSTR interface for which Tricentis Tosca has been certified since 2017. This integration concept does not change from the technical point of view.

Here is where TTA fits into the SAP Solution Manager 7.2 (and Focused Build) Test Suite picture:

Please be aware that Focused Build for SAP Solution Manager leverages all the automation capabilities of SAP Solution Manager, hence all the benefits of Tricentis Test Automation for SAP also apply to Focused Build for SAP Solution Manager.

And here is an overview of the TTA Architecture itself:

How to get started with TTA?

As you can see on the overview picture, there are several components involved in TTA:

  • The TTA Client which is installed on the end user desktop (Windows only at the moment). More information on the TTA installation can be found here (procedure, system requirements and so on).
  • The TTA Recorder will be automatically installed with the TTA Client, but it can also be installed as a standalone software for Business users for instance. More information here. Please note that the TTA Recorder is also known from Tricentis as the Automation Recording Assistant (ARA).
  • The TTA Server should be installed centrally, it runs on Windows and will be used for such services as Test Data Services and User Administration. It is highly recommended to install a database for your multi-user environments. All the details about the TTA server and DB server can be found here.
